iron front axle fron an unexpected source

Hello.

As everyone here knows- the front axle on the kj is not exactly bomb proof. I must admit that when i go offroad i think about it quite a lot and I take it into consideration. If and when i will blow my axle up- i will probably need a replacement - an iron axle.

Anyway- i did some reading and as it turns out- there are vehicles with front IFS dana 30 axles - they are made by a korean manufacturer called ssangyoung.

Its quite an interesting story really- ssangyoung made Jeeps for many years under lisence until they started developing their own (hideous) offroaders

And- they kept the good stuff-like axles. and as it turns out- ALL of their offroaders have a STEEL dana 30 IFS. sure- it will probably need fab work- but its real, its there.

I guess you never heard of ssangyoung cause you live in the states- but they were sold here and they are dirt cheap. i can get a secondhand musso for 500$.

well- i guess if i will blow my axle up- i will definately be embarking on this adventure.

Sanyo get ugliest heap of crud ever built didn't realise they used Dana axel. I know they run quite a bit of merc gear in them

they are difficult to swallow. and yes-they use MB engines. old ones.

You could also get the steel option from JBA as well.

Being a company in China I rather doubt they are using actual Dana diffs but there own cheap knockoffs.They are well known for that.

There quality for anything automotive(besides electronics) is less then stellar.

Either way still wouldn't trust they actually use Dana stuff since they are built in many countries that do not do any business with US auto parts manufactures.They build vehicles in russia and iran so that tells you the high quality there.

They may have had a real Dana that they copied from ( which is what they do) but then make it as cheap as possible.

To get a good idea that they will do anything to make money, they are now making rice from plastic and shipping it to Africa . Looks and feels like real rice except for a slight chemical smell. Plus when you cook it , it doesn't swell up like real rice.

They will copy and sell anything, except its cheap junk.
Bought a hammer in Tanzania to do some light work, made in China , 4th nail I started pounding on it just shattered.

I don't think that blowing up Dana 30 axles in a KJ is all that common. Honestly, you'll probably break u joints, cv joints, and come crashing down on top of a rock, cracking your t-case before you break even the lowly Dana 30.

It is if you wheel it, it's the weakest link up front. Get a tire spinning, grabs traction, BOOM. Since ours is aluminum. A steel one or like the HP30 in an XJ is quite a bit tougher.

I have to say- i have a friend who owns a ssangyoung rexton. twin diff lockers. wheels the sh## out of it. never had an axle problem. or any problem for that matter.

About the dana axles being made outside the US - well, over here in good ol' israel, we have a jeep factory. In nazereth (yes, that nazereth-merry xmas) we produce something called "storm"-for military use and a bit of civillian as well. having spent many hours behind the wheel of one- i can only describe it as the ******** son of a wrangler jk- with a wrangler tj straight six motor and rear leaf springs (or a CRD motor, its an option). but it was really durable- in fact it was so durable that chrysler bought it -and if you live in some god forsaken country (well.. i do) that needs military grade vehicles (well...we do) and really likes to go to war (yep....thats us, hello from the trigger happy crazy ass middle eastern jews)- and you want a military jeep- you will get our jeep

and -well....WE make the dana 44 axles.and we make them better. stronger everything.

by the way-funny story- one of the most sought after parts over here is the transfer case from a military grade storm. it is factory fitted with 1:4 gears and is made for military purposes- so its very well built- and its made for a 3 ton storm with armor and lots of weapons. people with cherokees and TJ's really like it.

You'll have to forgive us Westerners, although there has been plenty of documented failed components that were made abroad, we are led to believe that anything not made in North America is junk, even though there are also tons of documented cases of failed North American products. I have owned S. Korean vehicle(Hyundai) and it was well worth it's money. Not that it matters much what I think, but I believe everything you are saying, and good luck and Happy hard wheelin, here's hoping you can blow up your axle so you can replace it with something better
