Here Comes the Rust!

my little rust spot above the rear glass is growing. ive been workin on it for a while to keep the rust away, but i didnt notice until today that the rust is all up in the plastic on the roof rack. i know its a common issue, but what have you done to get rid of it? and how can i take off the roof rack bar and plastic??

Roof bar should be screwed in...plastic will probably come off with that as well.

Wow, thats pretty bad. Mine has a very small spot starting the the same seam but in the middle of the Jeep. Been keeping that seam packed with silicone grease. Been fine for over a year now.

When you take the bars off some plastic trim is attached,the rest appears to be Velcro on,mine shows a hairline crack in the paint running along that seam.

That's just not right, no older than your liberty is, it shouldn't be rusting like that, moisture is getting under that metal seam.
What are the rust warranty's on these things? Some naval jelly, and get it primed painted and sealed.

it must rain salt water where you live?
I have spots on my TJ where I have hit trees ,bent metal and the paint is gone
only minor surface rust

No,lot's of copper and bronze pearl though(at $90 a oz(Argh)).

BTT......we get a lot of road salt here and I need to check my jeep for rust again also. I try to keep spraying off the road salt when I can.
