I am now the proud parent of a 2003 Liberty Sport. She has some issues, but I'm looking forward to working them out with some advice from other parents here. My first question is about the 2WD - 4WD gears. I noticed that the 'Part Time' light stays lite on the dash when I'm driving. I've tried running thru the gears to reset it back to 2WD, but the light stays on. Does this mean it is stuck in 4WD? Driving seems to be a little rough, but I'm not used to a Jeep. My last car was a Suburban. I have an appointment at the Dealer, but any advice now would be greatly appreciated. Oh, BTW, the mileage is over 130,000.

Its just the switch that is bad/dirty/corroded or ??
As long as you know its going out of gear you're OK but its not a hard repair/replace
Sounds like you may need to do a full tuneup/ fluid changes etc , could be just bad plugs. Use only copper core plugs , they don't like those fancy tuner plugs

Welcome! Listen to that guy ^^. Light is most likely just the transfer case position switch. As long as you feel its out of 4wd you are fine for now. There is a how to on here that is quite helpful for that.

Not the mountains.
Definitely do a full tune-up on it. The sensor that Tom mentioned is most likely the culprit for you part-time light still being on. Your Jeep should feel a lot better to drive after you change all the fluids and put some good copper core plugs in. Welcome to the forums.

Here at work we've had 6 different liberty's. One of those had the 4hi light on for about 60k miles, but worked just fine.

My light comes and goes. I have a switch laying in the tool box, but everytime I have time to install it, its off. Next day maybe on, strange thing though, hook up either trailer, have the OD off and in two miles the light goes off and stays off the whole time I am towing. Been that way for 3 years !!!
Only item that I let slide as far as maintenance goes.

funny you mention that. Mine wouldn't just come on, but shifting out of 4hi or 4lo it would sometimes stay on but the transfer case itself wouldn't want to shift out of 4hi. Since the lift however, everything works perfectly. Proof, you're supposed to lift these things for them to work properly :happy175:

Mine was going on and off but been off for a while now (probably come on now as I am driving home). I would just giggle the shift handle and it would go off. Hmmm or was that how I fixed the toilet?
