Hi,

I also posted this on LostJeeps. I'm new to jeep and not sure which one gets the most use. So sorry if many of you visit both sites.

Glad to find this forum. I purchased a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade 4x4 with the Rocky Mountain Edition. The main driver will be my 17 year old son, but I'll drive it some to. I looked around for 3 months, test drove many KJs. I really wanted an 06 or 07 for the ABS, but decided to get by without ABS. It has 77,000 miles. The body and interior are perfect. It has new tires. It seemed to run and drive great to me on test drive. This was by far the best running, driving, looking KJ I tested.

Before purchase I took it to a dealer. This is what they found,
Said it needs new rotors and brakes all the way around
Said it needed differential fluid changes.
Said it needed transfer case fluid change
Said it needed auto transmission filter and new fluid.
It had 2 recalls, rear control arm and ball joints. The dealership fixed both while I had it down there.

Dealership also said they thought that it had a tick in the transfer case or auto transmission when shifting around 35 miles per hour. I drove this alot and didn't hear squat.

The small dealer that I bought it from agreed to fix all the above for half their cost besides the "click' around 35 when shifting. My hope is it goes away with new filter and fluids. Like I said, I used to work on cars years ago and never heard squat. I was really ******* this thing during test drive and noticed a by far the best shifting liberty I test drove.

All that said 2 questions.
If I get it back and I actually hear some type of click from transmission around 35 MPH what could it be? and where should I take it? Back to dealer / stealer?
Any other things that I should have serviced?

The thing I hate about buying a used car, I have no records at all besides the clear carfax. The carfax showed 2 owners, no maintenance records, and the 2 recalls.

This thing is fun to drive. For some reason, it seems pretty peppy and makes my want to mash the accelerator a lot. Hopefully this KJ and our family have a good marriage.

No relation between the two,
but most everyone jumps between the two .
Couple of us are even Mods on both of them, since we're both "special" :happy175:

Welcome!

You may want to mash the accelerator a lot right now - but after you calculate the gas mileage you may choose to be more gentle with the 'skinny pedal.' :party52:
