Exhaust Question for TJKJ

I remember a while back someone was talking about running with no muffler and TJKJ said that the KJ engine wasn't made to run without back pressure. So, I like to be able to drive my Jeep hunting and on trips and not scare off game with a loud exhaust or be annoyed by it on a trip. But I also like being able to hear it sometimes. I've thought about having an exhaust cut out installed between my cats and muffler with and electric flap on it. The cut out would allow some of the exhaust to flow out before the muffler but some would still go through the muffler correct? So would that be a suffice amount of back pressure? If not would it be possible to still install a cut out but run the cut out to a louder muffler like a magnaflow but keep the stock muffler as well and be able to swap between the two? I noticed the drivers side of the area where the muffler is now is empty would it be possible to place the second muffler on that side?

Just put a good muffler on it and be done unless you like paying for a new engine.

I'm NOT TJKJ ( if I was I'd have one Kick-A$$ KJ) but I do have an MBRP stainless cat-back on my KJ. It sounds cool and flows very well.

Just a note, they sound awful to you.

I would actually like to try a magnaflow out sometime. Kinda hard to buy a bunch of different mufflers and see what you like though. Those vids never do them justice. Guess you could sell the ones you dont like.

Backpressure

Wouldn't the restriction on flow imposed by the catalytic converters be sufficient to pose as back pressure? The cats are somewhat restricitve so perhaps a good flowing muffler after the cats wouldn't affect upstream exhaust pressures.

Higher end Chaparral boats have something like this. There's a switch that routes the exhaust either through the lower unit or straight out the back. Freakin awesome. Something like that could be your flapping mechanism. (dunno)

A KJ without a muffler is not going to sound like a 100K + speedboat running down the waterway on plane.

Rapid cooling of disimilar metals just seems like a bad idea when it comes to engine parts.

yeah buddy you know i'm just trying my hardest to upset YOU by asking an exhaust question to a specific member on a help and information forum. as much as you may want it to be, not everything is about you man .

OE cats are about the highest flowing cats on the market('03+ cats) and hence the very high cost.

REALLY? (dropmouth) WOW! I seriously would have never expected that! and I'm not being sarcastic! I would've thought quite the opposite! Man that blows my mind, I figured Magnaflow High Flow cats would be less restrictive...well that right there alone would save me a bunch of money if I decided to do an exhaust...

Is that in all make and models or just the Liberty's?
