Not sure there's anything easy to swap to....

The Nitro R/T runs a ~250hp 4.0L, although being a different engine family and generation, likely requires a full powertrain swap.

I would probably start with taking a measuring tape to see if a V8 could be made to fit. Dakota/Durango, Ram 1500, or Grand Cherokee would be a good place to start.

2.4 2.8 diesel and 3.7 that's it. V8 will fit but not much power difference per the people that have done it.

Actually, if driving auto trans doesn't bother you, its cheaper and easier to pickup a V8 Grand Cherokee or Durango as a spare vehicle for those heavy right-foot days.

Jeep not a race car

Agreed, although the manual trans with v6 is much sportier than the auto.

Isn't a bigger part of modern swap problems the engine electronics and modules in the keys?

It kills many possibilities that were easier to accomplish with older cars.

Is there a stroker kit for the 3.7 yet?

Electronics is the biggest issue and you not going to get any help unless you have a Wrangler.

As far as a stroker kit nope none, the OE pistons can't handle any boost, you have to dish big $$$ for forged pistons.

It is... and that's when it often ends up being a complete powertrain swap unless there's an aftermarket route. My brother put a 2000ish 4.3L Vortec & AWD - engine, trans, tcase, electronics and all - into a '93 S10 many years ago. Not a job for the faint of heart. That's the scope of work I envision for the Nitro 4.0L swap. The 4.7L route may be less involved because its a sibling engine, and shares bolt-pattern with the 3.7L transmissions.

The 3.7L is stroked compared to the 4.7L V8. (3.57" vs 3.405"). Its probably easier to stroke the V8.
