Hey everyone I just finished replacing a valve cover gasket on the passenger side of 2003 jeep liberty. There was a decent amount of coolant loss when i was going about removing the overfill and the heater core lines. I have replaced the fluid but my engine overheats and the vent do not blow hot air. (note: i am still a noob when it comes to fixing autos).
any help is appreciated!

Sounds like you need to get the air out of the system.
Let it cool down take the rad cap off fill the rad with hoat coolent only start it up and wait for the air to burp out fill with more coolent put the cap back on take it for a drive then recheck the coolent.
You can check the how to section on rad replacement as I did this with my droid sorry.

Hey thanks finally got the heat working and the engine is not overheating. But the original problem still exists. I originally changed the valve cover gasket cause there was a burning mell and white smoke comming from the rear passenger side of the engine kinda by the o2 sensor. It usually starts when engine is at running temperature and it comes through the vents. Thanks again

Well it may smoke for a little time after but get better and better.
Hope you checked the gasket and the valve cover for cracks and or flaws before reinstalling it. On a side note I have done a few gasket jobs that were not done correct the first time around.

Johnny, replace the coolant cap. Most likely it's leaking and causing the smoke/smell. This will also cause it to overheat - thus causing serious damage to the engine.
