New to the forum but thought I might get some insight on this Jeep I just picked up to replace my 2000 5.0 AWD explorer (some rust, not bad but not good either).

https://www.copart.com/lot/22890438

Paid $2100 for it. $3100 total including fees and delivery to my house (middle of nowhere). Carfax shows 4 new tires mounted balanced and aligned Sep 2017 along with new front brake pads. Thats at least $800 right there in maintenance. Excellent maintenance history as well, according to carfax.

Do you guys think I did alright? Im a fairly capable person and expect that I will be able to replace the door with some junkyard door of the same color. I figure Ill get $2k out of my explorer. Last 1998 AWD 5.0 I sold had 225k miles and I got $1700 for it, this 2000 has 98k miles.

That looks like a good price assuming whatever stove that door in didn't mess up something else. Yours rolled off the line about a month before mine did and I periodically get cards from local dealers offering me more than what you paid should I want to trade it in.

As with any used vehicle (or even a new one, for that matter), only time will tell for sure. :)

I'd like to see a pic of the rear door open..how much damage inside there?

That seems like a decent price. I've been looking for a donor lately and they are either rust buckets or relatively mint, like yours sounds. Good buy!

I think you'll find that this site has a wealth of information, and knowledgeable members to back that info up. Do the due diligence when you have an issue, and you'll likely find a solution.

I see the TC and ABS lights lit. If the ESP/BAS light is on as well, check the ABS PUMP fuse in the power center under the dash.

No, I meant "stove", as in "she's done stove in sumpin' fierce". I lived in WV for a year and it tweren't fer nothin' whut I done so. Ask ol' Tomm - he'll be larnin' soon 'nuff.

And don't ruin other people's threads by correcting your elders! :favorites68: :happy175:

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Though they normally crank the car and take pics almost immediately so its possible it could just be lit on account of that since you normally have some lights like that light up.

Im not sure if someone would purposefully take out the ABS fuse and disable TC, unless they wanted to do burn outs or something.

I think you're right in the ballpark. :icon_cool: I picked up my fixer-upper KJs for less, but they're older (03 & 04).

Got it delivered today, he mentioned the lights on the dash as he rolled it off the truck but they turned off as soon as I drove it over to a parking space.

After that it was started multiple times and there are no trouble lights coming on of any kind (beyond the self test lights on startup). Very good news. Speakers upgraded all around by someone.

Drives great, no issue, alignment is excellent. Engine sound good and runs smooth. key-less entry and multiple keys included.

I was surprised to find some of the same lower end grunt/torque/acceleration that my 5.0 explorer had. Feels very torquey for a V6 engine and thats exactly what I want.

After a more detailed inspection, will probably be adding a rear locker.
