Just finished replacing the intermediate shaft, inter bearing and seal, CV axle, wheel bearing, and lower ball joint.

Took it for a quick spin to test it out... was making a slight clunking sound. Tried 4 part time, then full time... huge bang sound! CV axle fell out of intermediate shaft. I seriously hope it didn't break something else. After loud bang it just freewheeled like in neutral while in full time 4wd. No rear wheel drive or anything until I put it back into 2wd.

Good job EBAY DETROIT AXLES. Thanks for selling me a CV axle that's too short. You clearly have it listed as correct for my vehicle.

Beyond pissed that I have to now do complete job over, and get the correct CV axle.

Great first post, isn't. By the way my first Jeep I've owned... love it so far... I knew this CV axle was iffy when I purchased it.

Sorry for your troubles - but Welcome to the forum!

The CRD CV axles are different than the gassers - the diff is shifted to the left to accommodate the diesel engine. So that means the driver's/left side CV is shorter than the gasser and the passenger/right side CV is longer.

Try NAPA remanufactured CV's. I've not shopped for CRD CV axles since I have a 3.7 gas KJ but have always had great luck with them. I saw a post on another forum that some NAPA stores can't get the remanned axles anymore but your mileage may vary.

Detroit Axle definitely needs to change their listing - CRD and 3.7 CV axles are definitely different. :emotions34:

My Napa had to call the manufacturer, which is closed weekends.

Autozone has one, I'll make sure it's correct.

If anyone reads this thread prior to replacing their passenger side CV axle, be prepared to also get intermediate shaft, intermediate shaft bearing (yes it's a plastic bushing) and seal

I'd be wary of the AutoZone CV's. Theirs are typically too short for the gas KJ's and I wouldn't be surprised if they are too short for CRD's as well. NAPA has been very consistent on their remans - their new CV's may be different.

I have the new one in. Duralast I believe is manufacturer. It's so had to tell if it's exactly same length or not because of sliding movement under CV boots.

So far so good though!

Still working good? Napa doesn't carry crd CVs and I can't find anyone who has remanufactured CVs

My Jeep is an oil burner but that doesn't make it a CRD
