I've owned my KJ for about 6 months now. About a total of 3 times I have noticed a beep while in reverse (like a piece of heavy equipment or a school bus). First time it happened was about 1 1/2 months ago. 99% of the time it doesn't do it. I can't find ANYTHING about this. It's weird as it obviously doesn't work correctly.

Haha no. I've been alone every time. It did it again today. I had put the thing in reverse and then decided to dig a CD out. I sat there with my foot on the brake and it started beeping but it was cutting in and out. Put it in D and it stops and off we go. I know this sounds crazy but I'm not lying. First time it did it I was very surprised.

Maybe the person who had it before you wired up something. years ago when I was taking an electronics class we wired up a European ambulance siren on a bread board. A few of the guys in the class wired it up to their backup lights in their cars. Some added extra resistors to change the pitch and tone of the beeps as well. Check under the light housing and see if you notice anything strange.

I wondered if that was a possibility. I just didn't know where to look.

Beeeeep....

Start by checking your reverse bulb/s. You can purchase these reverse bulbs that include a high pitch beeper. Otherwise there would have to be a beeper speaker somewhere !

Oh, yes, that beep. only happens once right?

It's the rear tailgate locking. :)

My KJs did it. My sister's KJ does it. My friend's KJ does it. My cousin's old KJ did it.

Some people notice it, some don't. :)

EDIT: I think I've even heard it from my WK. I've gotten so used to it that I don't listen for it anymore.

Oh yeah, its not really a beep, yeah it sounds like it, but its more of a high pitched chirp from the lock actuator. I hear that almost every time i put it in gear and the lock engages.

Yeah, that's it. We talked about that YEARS ago! So long ago I can't find the original thread, lol.

That dosen't happen to mine.
It dosen't lock until I get to 10 mph.

Not the door locks, just the rear gate, when you put it in reverse or drive it locks the rear gate, and then it locks the rest of the doors at 15mph. You said 10mph but i'm sure it varies a bit, the manual says 15mph.

Thanks for the responses guys. It's definitely a beep and not the lock actuator. My sister's XJ makes that noise very pronounced so I've heard what you're talking about it. But it's weird because the first time it did it, it was the whole duration of the backup. I can't explain it other than it sounded like heavy equipment. If it's the bulbs, goes to show you how junky they are!
