After getting several codes regarding the vehicle running too rich, I recently attempted to clean the MAP sensor by spraying 91% isopropyl alcohol in the intake manifold, via brake booster intake port. I wasn't able to remove the MAP sensor, as I couldn't access it without removing too many things, and currently have limited tools on hand. (...Before I began, I used a bidirectional scanner to remove all adaptive memory from the ECU..)
While the Jeep was idling, I slowly and carefully sprayed the alcohol through a straw, into the intake, making sure not to hydrolock it. The idle stayed pretty smooth the whole time. I let it idle for about 5 minutes, then took it out for a drive. I drove it for about 20ish minutes, at varying speeds, as I live where there aren't too many long, level roads, without stop lights or signs. After the first 10 minutes of trying to keep the acceleration as steading as I could, I did a couple runs where I opened it up a few times, not letting it redline. It had no problem with rapid acceleration. No missing, no hiccups.
When I got back home, I let it idle for about 5 minutes, then turned it off, for about 10 minutes. After that, I ran a basic scan. 2 pending codes popped up... 172 and 430
Before I drove it the next day, I added Gumout Injection Cleaner. My tank was just below 1/4 tank. I went and ran some errands at first, then did a couple runs with as steady of acceleration as possible. I did a couple more runs, with rapid acceleration, then I came home, let it idle for a few minutes, then turned it off and let it sit for about 10 minutes. I then ran another basic scan, and much to my surprise, the only code now pending is 430.
I'm not sure what direction to go now. I had planned on doing another Gumout treatment, and adding gas, to bring the tank to just below 1/2 tank, but thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions. I don't want do something to change the progress, and not so sure exactly what the pending codes is actually reflecting.
I have a bidirectional scanner, as I stated, but am a newbie, and not sure how to utilize the live data to help diagnose.
All ears/eyes here... Anyone?
By the way, aside from having my Jeep running as best as currently possible, I'm trying to get it prepped for smog. I'm a So Cal gal, and due to some extenuating circumstances, the Jeep hasn't been smogged since the previous owner did it, before it was purchased, over 2 years ago. Clearly the certification he had, was not a legit one, cause within a couple weeks after that, the check engine light came on. Unfortunately, the data link port wasn't 'linking', and I had no way to know what was up. I just recently (in the last couple weeks) was able to spend the time necessary to figure out why, and remedy the problem. I was able to get the correct wiring diagram for the dlc, then replaced it.
