If the inboard side of the CV wobbles as in the video above, you want to do the seals and bearings in the ends of the diff.

They were not easy for me to get out. (I had the whole front diff out and apart). The passenger side seal especially... if didn't budge despite driving the old bushing right out through the seal. OEM bushings are typically plastic, but Spicer supplies an actual bearing.

Jeez I hope that's not what I find in there. I'm not ready with all that stuff. I guess I'll pull them and investigate. Theres definitely some kind of bearing puller I would need correct? I'm about the head out to the garage and start workin.

Another simple question... Last night when I pulled the drive shaft I noticed there was just a little bit of grease around the splines on the front end of the shaft. I thought there would be more...so I added just a little bit of this...

Mobil/12.5 oz. (354.369 g.) wheel bearings, chassis, suspension, universal joints synthetic grease (110566) | Lubricant/Grease | AutoZone.com

Now I'm kinda wondering if I should have cleaned it all out and either applied more or something different? Kinda seems like it ain't no big deal but not sure. There is a boot there so I assumed it was for protecting and for holding grease in...

I did the most of it with a 1" impact socket as a driver with a long extension through the opposite side of the diff. I tried a 3-jaw slide-hammer thingy on the passenger side to no avail. Gently prying and tapping with chisels and prybar finally worked.

On the plus side, you can take the whole front diff out and still drive it in the meantime. ;)

Yeah, if you leave the cv in the drivers side then its going to be turning half of the diff. I dont know enough about it to say it would be fine for a short drive just to see if removing the passenger side makes the noise go away.

I had a good amount of play in my splines on the passenger side and my seals/bushings are fine and dandy. Been a good 20k miles since i replaced the cv.

Replaced a few CVs/Intermediate shafts and never had an issue with the seals etc. OF course if you've ran it for several thousand miles and ignored it then you may have to.
You can run with just one in a short distance but wouldn't go on a 1000 mile trip ha ha

Hey jeepjeepster are you saying you had a good amount of play before the last time you changed the CV axle but the seals and bushings were fine and didnt need replacing?

Ive got a small space where im working so I might not be able to do both wheels at the same time. Got almost all the nuts off last night but got stuck without a deep well 21mm socket so I had to put the whole thing back together so I could pick the wife up from the airport this morning. Gonna hopefully get back after it tonight

Angry Sparrows video?

Still haven't had the time to pull the CV's but the noise showed up again this morning so I made a little video of it...
