06 engine into an 05

Anyone know if the crank ring & cam gear has to be changed between these two years ? TIA . Both are 3.7 Libertys .

No need to change the crank and cam gears - the change is between '04 and '05. Can't put an '04 and earlier into an '05 and later :waytogo:

Thanks , I thought they were probably the same but there must be some difference between the two years because salvage yards list them separately as if they don't interchange . Might have to swap intake manifolds or something .

Yep, you're probably right. When you get the replacement look at stuff like the intake and exhaust manifolds, whether the throttle is "fly by wire" or electric, etc. But the long blocks themselves are the same.

I put an '07 3.7L from a Dodge Dakota in my '03 after changing the crank and cam rings - runs great :happy160:

The block and heads interchange, but I think other stuff will have to be swapped from the '05 because of the fly-by-wire crap on the '06.

'07 gassers got the DBW.
I *think* the '06 diesels got DBW as well, but i'm not an oil burner fan/lover/owner so I can't be quoted on that.
