I'm new to this forum and it looks like there's some good stuff going on here. Unfortunately I'm not offroading these days and my jeep is just a vehicle that rips up the snow in colorado. Now I'm back living in Kentucky and I'm thinking of selling my jeep liberty and getting one of the new diesel jeeps or gasp (even something more gas efficient) Sorry please dont stone me!

I have a question regarding my rock bars (nerf bars without steps) on my 05 jeep liberty renegade. They are pretty badly rusted out and I was thinking about replacing them or removing them sanding them down and repainting. I think the latter would be my first choice as to save a little dough and I like a good diy project.

First question- If I wanted to replace these rock rails with something stock looking (IE: I dont want nerf bars made to step on) where can I get these? I cant seem to find exactly what I'm looking for anywhere online.

Second- If I wanted to sand them down and repaint them. What would be the easiest way to do this? I wouldnt need anything super duper durable as I'll be selling it. I just want to delay the rust take over. What kind of paint? How much sanding? Could I get away with a partial sanding and some of that spray paint made to spray over rust?

I dont wanna walk into this blind so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I've attached pictures of the rails underneath the vehicle

Just take them off. They are functionally useless and not worth the effort to refinish. I don't think it would hurt the resale value any without them.

Agree remove them not worth the cost of paint to paint them, no one will miss them , they do nothing to protect the body

^^^ x2. I wouldn't buy new ones if you're selling it. Good new ones cost a fortunes (from steel ones from a reputable brand). Nobody will miss them if they're gone.
