Haynes manual, oil filter, seat belt extension

I have moved on to more Japanese pastures and have a few things left over. My Haynes manual (covers 02-07), an extra oil filter (Motorcraft FL-400s), and a seat belt extender used for when my daughter was in a booster seat (Jeep Seat Belt Extender - Item # 5018505AA, 5086227AA, 5179969AA...

Heavier brake dust on one side

My front passenger wheel has noticeably higher brake dust buildup than the driver's side. The Jeep doesn't pull either with or without braking. Both rotors and pads were replaced at the same time with identical brand & models. It's only on the front, not rear. Ideas?

    Need to replace a stud

Somehow cross threaded a nut and in the process of removing it stripped the lug stud. I searched the "How to" here (came up empty) and on some other sites. Some advise using a BFH, some say not to. Anyone have experience doing this on their Jeep?

    Saturday? Must mean another leak!

FFS! Now it's an engine oil leak. I know this for certain, and THINK I found the source: where the fill tube meets the block. When the mechanic replaced my valve cover gaskets, the kit included a new fill tube gasket, which I assume was replaced as well. If it turns out the filler tube is...

    NOW what's leaking?

Any idea what is leaking here? It appears to be where the front driveshaft meets the front differential. Any particular seals/gaskets right there, or more likely something bigger? Edit: no idea why my pictures keep getting rotated when I upload

    Leaking water pump

I replaced the water pump about 6 months ago. New gasket, copper RTV, torqued to spec, everything by the book. I now have an intermittent (1-2 times per week) leak. I'll get small puddles/splashes under the Jeep, and I can see the leftover film from evaporated coolant on the water pump...

Starting while drive belt is removed

I have read on here to try this trick to figure out if various noises are coming from the engine itself or the accessories under the hood. If I do this, I know all sorts of lights on the dash will go nuts, which leads to a couple questions: 1. How long can I safely run the Jeep without the...

    Mystery burning smell

2004 Sport, 117k miles Qualitative: Smells like burning rubber, more present from start to 10 mins and seems to go away entirely after 20 mins, more noticeable when sitting still rather than moving Quantitative: Coolant level and color are fine, temp. gauge never goes above the middle...

    New jack needed, advice?

I completely shredded the threads of my stock jack after using it over and over and not regreasing it. I have a non-lifted 2004. I have looked at other scissor jacks, bottle jacks, racing jacks, etc. I am looking for enough clearance to get 16" height jack stands under the frame...

    Dead battery...again

Battery died completely out of the blue last night. Got the "click click click". Jumped it, drove around, let it idle in the driveway, all without the lights on or the radio going. This morning "click click click". This is the exact same way it died last time. No warning, no dimming, no...

Timing chain tensioner(s): cost & consequences?

My 2004 3.7 sport has the "ticking at start-up/in the cold" issue. From reading a whole lot of threads on here and elsewhere, it appears it's likely a tensioner issue. In a previous thread, I read a quote of around $500-700, does that seem reasonable? I DO intend to get this fixed, but I...

    "frozen" caliper bolts

I changed the front rotors and pads today, as the Liberty had picked up quite the shudder when braking firmly to hard. I noticed the upper caliper guide pins on both the driver's and passenger's side were frozen in the "closed" position (pressed in towards the rotor). The bottom pins had good...

    High sodium in oil sample

I sent a sample of engine oil to Blackstone labs for analysis at my last oil change (80k miles). The sample came back with higher than normal sodium. Some quick research seems to indicate coolant in the oil as a potential source. The only issue is that they also tested the oil for coolant and...

    Replacing U-joint(s)?

I checked the "How-to" board and couldn't find this one listed. I'm considering replacing my U-joint(s). The parentheses are present because my Haynes manual says the front U-joint can't/shouldn't be replaced, any comment? Also, when replacing the rear U-joint, which type/grade of grease...

    Front diff gasket

It's about that time to service the front and rear diffs on my 2004. I had them done at the stealership two years ago at a cost of $85 each. I read the "How to" and decided to do it myself. Not really reading closely, I ordered new gaskets for the front AND rear diffs, not just the rear. So...

    Losing oil?

Over the last two oil changes I have noticed the outside of the filter has a light film of oil on it at change time. The same light film can be found on the front axle and steering components. I put 5qts in at change time, I recover 4.2qts plus whatever's still in the old filter. The filter...

    Anyone done installations through Tirerack.com?

Tirerack.com has a "price pledge plus" list of local installers who "promise" to install for the prices listed on the tirerack.com website. Has anyone ordered tires through them AND used a recommended installer? A local one near me lists mount & balance for any 60-series or higher tire for...

    Buying a factory service manual

I know many of you highly recommend this for any form of repairs and/or upgrades due to its level of detail. I have a Haynes manual, which isn't bad, but isn't great. First, is it one volume or two? I've found some listed online, and some say one volume, some say two. Second, are there...

    Stuck in 4 part time

I was tooling around in 4 full time, due to the 18 inches of snow we got this weekend. By this afternoon, most had melted, roads were clear, etc. so I wanted to shift back to 2wd. No dice. I shift the lever all the way down to the 2wd position, but the "part time" light stays on, and I can...

    Odd traction/rotation question

I'm nearing the point of needing new tires. I'm going to try to make it through this winter before getting them. I noticed that my spare has never been worked into the rotation pattern, so it has full tread. I am thinking of rotating my tires myself, and thought maybe I could work in my...
