    Transmission Rebuild

Metal chunks and shavings. After seeing it firsthand, I'm impressed it drove as long as it did. The fluid was dirty, smelled burnt, and at this point, I think it's money well spent to get it back on the road in a few days. Bob - Not much rust at all. Just some spots at the bottom of the door...

    Transmission Rebuild

Oh, it has issues. Just saw it opened and some of the components taken apart. I've never seen that volume of metal shavings in one pan. And I don't think there should be random pieces of metal chunks floating around in there either.

    Transmission Rebuild

Thanks for the feedback all. I'm kind of over the barrel on this one: she needs the car sooner rather than later (returning to work), I'm away for stretches of time and can't work on it myself, and my cars are strictly off limits. This is the perfect example of why I hate last-minute repairs...

    Transmission Rebuild

My apologies...I should have been clearer. I had it scanned with a WiTech/StarScan a week or so ago and was told the torque converter and clutches were slipping. The fluid temp was high and level was low. That, in addition to the other driveability problems leads me to think it's time for a...

    Transmission Rebuild

Just curious to hear some feedback on this: Wife's transmission has been slipping for a few weeks, maybe longer. I just hear about it when it gets bad. Has a P0700 code. Don't know when it was serviced last, gets driven hard and put away wet. Mostly city driving. It's getting to the...

Why Is It So Quiet in the NorthEast

When I drive my wife's Lib I try to park next to others in a parking lot and strike up a conversation if they're around. When I tell people about this forum they politely nod and smile but could probably care less. Kind of like the jeep wave: they just don't get it or aren't interested. It's...

What does everyone think about buying gasoline futures?

Maybe, but probably not. You're going to be so caught up with the house that tracking, trading, or maintaining something like this would be more of a distraction than anything else. Between the fracking really hitting it's stride here in the US, the Keystone pipeline's prospects looking better...

    High idle rpm

Wife had the same problem and a good cleaning of the throttle body and a new iac solved the problem.

CBs are still very popular in the northeast on interstates, especially with large fleet operators getting real time traffic conditions from each other.

    Duck Commander M/T tires

Priced high, made in China, and will probably fall apart on wet grass.

    changing a valve cover gasket on a 2006 3.7

I just did the passenger side of my wife's a few months ago. The driver side wasn't leaking so I didn't bother with it. I still have the gasket boxed up just in case. There are a few threads on how to do it on here which are really good. While I had the cover off I just looked inside and it was...

pesky p0300 random misfire issue--- FIXED!!!!

Nice work. I had the same issue with an o2 code and a new sensor fixed both. People on other sites were convinced it was a bad cat converter but this site taught me otherwise.

    Tapping Sound during attempted start

Thanks, guys. I'll have to check some of those out. Before now, I never really thought much about it: my Explorer battery lasted almost 10 years and I knew I was in for a battery when I bought my VW.

    Tapping Sound during attempted start

That's pretty slick. I'm going to check those out. I have a trickle charger but didn't want to give it an overnight slow charge only to have it fail again later at a more problematic time. How often so you charge the batteries and do you remove them or leave them in the tray?
