Diesel CRD Buy or not to buy

I'm a diesel nut, but in spite of that I did not buy a diesel Liberty. Diesel Liberties sell for about $8000 more than a comparable gasser. (Say $14,000 instead of $6000). How long is it going to take to save $8000 in fuel? The Liberty uses so much fuel (the gas or diesel one) that I...

Washita Offroad park vs. Transfer case

I've never taken an American 4X4 off road without breaking something, and I've owned four of them. Totally normal. Expect little pieces to start falling off with a jingling noise in the next few days.

45RFE clunks from a stop sometimes...

Mine was doing this, until I put limited-slip additive in the rear differential. The clunking was the clutches releasing, I guess. It took a while for the clunk to go away. It just slowly got better and better after I put in the additive. Now it never clunks. That was the only thing I...

    Weird Overdrive Behaviour

2002 Liberty 4x4 3.7L with 45RFE transmission... I've encountered a very strange problem with overdrive while climbing hills. If I'm going about 60km/h (35mph) up a fairly steep hill, and I turn the overdrive off (so the light is on), it seems to shift UP to the highest gear, RPM drops...

HOW TO: Change your front/rear diff oils

One thing: Take the fill plug out FIRST. If you take out the drain plug, and then for some reason can't get the fill plug out, then you aren't going anywhere until you do get it out, one way or another. Maybe you'll need a tow truck to take you to a shop... I know it's not too likely that...

Airbag light randomly comes on and off! Please help!

Why don't you want it to be the clockspring? That would be an easy fix. Mine needed a new airbag control module to the tune of $1000 installed by the dealer. (Can anyone else really install them? I'm pretty sure you need the dealer scan tool to program it... the DRB III or whatever it's...

    air bag light info

    '02 vs '02 engine, stuck

I copied and pasted this from one of the stickies in this forum: So now if you want a 04-05 engine in your 02-03 here is what you do….. 1. Strip off the 04-05 to a plain long block (no sensors, manifolds ect) 2. Purchase a 02-03 crankshaft kit comes with all new bearings about $280 3. Now...

    Vehicle alignment

Since you're also in Richmond, you could go to Heinz Repair Shop. He charged me $95 and it's perfect. He's a very experienced mechanic from Germany. Google it because I'm not sure I have the name exactly right. He's on Horseshoe Way, I think. Owner's name is Frank. (read your post again...

45RFE clunks from a stop sometimes...

Just to let you know, I used ACDelco limited slip additive because that's all the store had. It seems to have worked. I don't know if Mopar is better, worse, or the same. The bottle was about 100ml (4oz ?) and I dumped the whole thing in.

45RFE clunks from a stop sometimes...

My 2002 KJ was doing the same sort of thing. When you pull away from a stop, or sometimes just after you come to a stop, there would be a "clunk" which felt like it was in the drive line somewhere. Well, I think I figured it out after I received my build sheet from Chrysler and saw that I have...

OTC 9450 ABS & SRS Scan Tool

Yeah, I have discovered this to be the case. Fortunately I only paid $106.99 for it. Their MSRP is $300 which is absolutely not worth it. So far their "tech support" has consisted of some dude e-mailing to tell me to try specifying 2003 instead of 2002 for the vehicle. That didn't work...

OTC 9450 ABS & SRS Scan Tool

Well, so far this scanner is turning out to be a piece of $hit. I tried to scan the airbag module and all it says is "Command Rejected." What good is that? Prior to purchasing it, I wrote to their technical support department and asked if it will scan the airbags for my Jeep and they...

    panel/under steering column

I guess mine is an early 2002 model then. I did eventually get the panel off. I grabbed it as described and just pulled as hard as I could thinking I would definitely break it, but it did come off. It definitely won't fall off by accident...

    panel/under steering column

Just how hard do you have to pull on this thing? I pulled and pulled until the thing was bending like crazy and nothing... Didn't unclip at all. Let me guess, they want you to break it and buy another one, right?

OTC 9450 ABS & SRS Scan Tool

Well I went ahead and bought one (online, should have it in about a week). I'll post my results. It would be nice if it can help me fix this airbag light BS which seems to plague so many Chrysler products for some reason. This airbag issue almost seems like a problem that they've created on...

OTC 9450 ABS & SRS Scan Tool

Has anyone ever tried one of these? http://www.otctools.com/products/abs_airbag_code_reader It's supposed to be able to read airbag related codes, which most scanners won't do. Its hard to find any reviews on the Internet. Seems hardly anyone has tried this. I might be the guinnea pig I...

    water pump keeps leaking

You might want to check the coolant reservoir cap. It regulates pressure in the cooling system. If the cap is either the wrong one, or for some other reason is allowing the system to get too pressurized then maybe that could explain why your pumps keep leaking again and again. It might not...

What did you sell or trade to get your KJ?

I just wanted a clunker for driving around in the bush. Got mine for $3500 and it's in good shape!

    New 2002 Liberty multiple questions:

I have a Pela 6000 oil extractor. I can shove the extractor hose down the tranny dipstick tube and suck some out of there too. Some guy did a YouTube video on how to do this. You can get at least a couple more liters out that way (after you've drained the pan). He stops at two liters (or...
