Replacement headlights

Anyone got opinions on some brighter than stock replacement headlight bulbs? Had used the Sylvania SilverStar which were ok but their life sucked, I think a year is all I got.

You trade output for life, theres no way around this short of retro'ing a set of HID projectors.
A year isnt so bad for life though, 50 bucks for a pair of 9007's spread over a year?

Reviews are pretty good overall and life expectancy is higher than Silver Stars. I was not overly impressed with the Silver Star bulbs other than I do think they had a better beam than stock and also made critters eyes pop out at you easier.

I think I may try the Philips 9007 X-tremeVision Upgrade

Any comments on the SYLVANIA XtraVision?

Phillips are a lot better
Been running them for last 10 years now, nothing else

My Philips have been good...but I don't drive the Jeep as much as I used to so I can't speak for length of life yet.

Seeing that they need airflow for cooling but the Jeep Liberty lamp assembly is solid, as are most.



They have an internal fan on the heat sink that is constantly running when the lights are on to keep them cool.

And light searing lasers into my corneas. Our relfectors are not the greatest to begin with, so unless you retro in some projector lenses to focus and better aim those suckers, it ain't gonna be pretty.


You just have to aim them down a bit. Lol


I've had them on multiple vehicles. A full set of dual beam headlights and fogs on my lifted Ford Ranger and then another complete set on my lifted Nissan Titan. Both with not the greatest lenses but with LEDs your going from a 55watt halogen bulb to an 80watt LED. This equates to a much more usable area of light where you need it. Projection on the high beams will not be as far you are correct but I've always had extra exterior lighting when I've needed that.

Yeah I know... but man, if you aim them down, you're really not gaining that much in terms of range of light. Even with my stock 45w driving lamps (will be upgrading to 65w soon), plus my low beams I have PLENTY of light right in front of the Jeep out to about 100-120ft.

It's pushing the light way out in front of me that I want.. which means aiming the lights higher... which means getting in the faces of oncoming cars (other lifted trucks, not so much).

LED's would be great for this.. but there are some trade offs.

Those little cooling fans are so horrible for longevity... they go bad in my high end network switches ALL THE TIME.

I have to say...this is what is keeping me from using them in my tC. I really don't want to have to always worry about those cooling fans in the hot/cold/rain/snow/etc...

The tC also has proper projectors (halogen projectors with squirrel-finders...but for the most part their cutoff is proper).

I have them on my KJ and never blind anyone, and if I angled them higher (obviously I'm not going to because of oncoming traffic) they'd go further than any other bulb you can throw into a halogen housing currently
HIDs are the best way to go, mine don't get hot enough to need fans and you get plenty of light spread compared to LEDs or $50-$60 halogens

What about the 7 inch LED headlights the Wrangler guys run? Would they fit?

Last time I measured I believe they were about 7 1/4" which means you'd have to find a way to fill a roughly 1/4" gap.. not easy
Every one I've seen looks terrible, even the projector "retrofit" KJ headlights look ugly IMO
You're pretty much stuck with halogens unless you get HIDs, which like LEDs, would need to be angled down further
Although with HIDs you get much more spread of light than halogens and especially compared to LEDs so you wouldn't lose as much down-road spread as LEDs

I just got projector housings for my Titan. Will be ordering high quality 5000ks shortly and cannot wait!

I put in DDM Tuning 5000k 55w HIDs and the difference is massive. I might switch the bulbs for the 4500k because you get way more usable light. Anything over 5000k and you start to get into a color/temp that your eyes aren't as efficient at picking up.

5000k and up will give you a white w/ slight blue hue and starts to blend in with the road.
4500k and below will you a white w/ slight yellow hue, this is closer to the natural sun light temperature.

I've had my HIDs in for 2-3 months now and never been high beamed or had any complaints when following behind friends and family. No halogen will come close. LEDS are almost as bright but I have no experience with any LED brands. I've used DDM Tuning kits in a couple of my cars and my bike with no issues yet. They have a 9007 bulb that does low and high beam.

x 7 on phillips xtreme vision.

had GE nighthawk plat. less than 2 years before blown. Wasn't better. Also had one of the sylvanias same story.

phillips 9007 were cheaper and lasted 3 plus till i sold. Light output was also better.
