So I just bought this 04 Liberty about a month ago and before I bought it I checked that the four wheel drive worked and everything was great. The 'PART TIME' light came on when the truck was in 4-HI and the '4 LO' light came on when in 4-Low. a couple of times while driving in 2-Hi the "Part time' light would come on if you hit a bump (but the truck was still in 2 wheel drive) It only happened a couple of times and I just pushed the x-fer case lever down and the light went out.

Now today I needed to use the four wheel drive and neither the 'Part time' or '4LO' lights work on the dash, even though the 4 wheel drive did engage. I am wondering where I should start looking to see what the issue is.

I had the same issue in my '03. Its just a sensor switch thing on the Tcase that gets old n dirty. I dont remember but the part may be cheap, but I know its kind of a PITA to get too because you have to take the whole center console out. your 4x4 still works, the dash lights wont. I do remember reading somewhere that if the light stays on when in 2wd then the ****** computer goes into a different mode but mine would usually be on part time for about 4 months and I didnt notice a difference

Mine doesn't work and I don't worry about it.
If you don't know if you have it in 4 high or 4 low you have more problems than a light :happy175:

that light has been busted on my wife's 03 for over 2.5 years now and no issues with the transmission, transfercase, or diffs.

KBoone, you didn't notice a difference because the engine / transmission recalibration only occurs in Low Range. Not High.

Something like this would seriously bother me too. :p If my 4WD light stopped working I'd go insane.... I hate it when little crap like this breaks.
