Well I'll be putting on tires sometime in the next three or so months so was looking at the options and wondering what others had experienced with their Liberty.

Current set is the Hankook Dynapro AT/m and generally I have liked these tires. As they aged I did find their wet traction, especially when it first starts to rain the stopping and starting traction was not the best. Road noise did increase as they aged but I've had these tires on forever and driven through anything I wanted without problems.

That said I thought I would switch mainly due to the road noise and slight slipping but want to stay with a similar style tire so wondering what others are running and what they think of:

  • Firestone Destination A/T (never been a Firestone fan)
  • Kumho Road Venture AT51 (pretty sure I had these b4 the Hankook)
Was keyed in on the Continental Terraincontact A/T but not made in 35/70-16

also have Hankook Dynapro ATMs and noticed slight slippage in wet conditions even with plenty of tread life left. Even with that, I plan to go with them again for value versus cost consideration

Nokian Hakkapelittas for the wet/winter and Goodyear Wranglers the rest of the time. Both 245/75R16E.

Falken Wildpeak A/T 3 Ws on the 03
Great tire
I have tried many, loved the Duratracs ( on the 04 ) and they did better overall than anything else I had ever run.
BUT started reading, talking to others and looking at the Falken's and went that way, so glad I did .
Right nothing else comes close IMO
They are going on the 05 soon as well

Cooper or Falkens are what I'd do if you want something different from the Hankooks

I'd stay away from the Destination A/Ts. Been running them on my Ranger for about 50k now and they've always been a bit wonky on wet pavement. Of course this is on a light ass pickup and I get a little enthusiastic when I drive it. They look nice and are quite good in snow and light mud. I will probably try the Falkens that Tom mentioned on it next time.

I second the Falkens... plus, if it matters since value was mentioned, the 245-75-16 size can be had for $112 per tire from most retailers (I just looked and saw that tire, that size, for that price on Discount Tire's website). The Hankook's are $14 more per tire, so almost $60 more for a set.. that isn't a ton of cash, considering how expensive tires are in general, but it covers mount and balancing, or a very good alignment.

Look at Cooper AT3's. That's whatI'll most likely be going with this spring.

Just installed Cooper discovery at3 4s, 235/75/16. About 1” narrower and taller than stock 235/70/16. Fits the rim perfectly. Almost No additional noise on highway, rides smooth, much grabbier than the street Michelin’s they replaced, and about same mpg on hwy even with new tires. Expect negligible mpg difference after wear-in. But They did take about 2.5 ounces of weight per wheel which I’m told is normal for a/t but certainly more than I’m used to for normal p tires and much more than tires beforehand.

I was reading a user review of those at the link below. Driver seemed really happy with them. Pretty aggressive looking.

I looked at the Coopers, couple of people where I used to work ran them, but looks, performance, price put them towards the bottom of the list. I really tried to like them since they are made in Ohio.
Not aggressive enough looking for me in the end. Of course I am on dirt roads daily anymore so want something that not only " looks" the part but does it as well

Hard to even find a gravel road around here. That said though I may need to drive into the mountains in a foot of unplowed snow and I have a few places that are unpaved and muddy that I don't want to even flitch in just driving right into them, preferably not going into 4 wheel drive.

I was hoping to make it through the summer on the Hankook however I just about totaled the Liberty today on a "mist" covered road and some dick pulled out in front of me then stopped and I locked up all four, sliding down the road and had to let go of the breaks and dive into another lane.

Where my parents live it's up a steep hill and out a flat , some stone but mainly mud, I only have about a 1/2 mile of dirt road to my place
But with free gas/water etc its worth it.
Yes once tires get worn down they aren't much good on slick/ rainy roads

Not the mountains.
Hey Tom. Which one of the Falken Wildpeak AT3's did you get because I've seen two listed? I'm guessing one is rated to tow more weight.

Driven in a foot of snow the other day didn’t even need 4wd as compared to street tires that I couldn’t move without 4wd. Smooth and quiet can’t see a down side. Pretty aggressive but fairly street oriented
