Why are my inner tread scalloping after complete suspension refresh?

Did you do an alignment after the changes made?

Yep, took it straight to Pep Boys for alignment when I completed the suspension and a brake flush. Maybe their guys screwed the alignment? Camber is a bit off?

I don't have any wander or shimming, just a slight, minute vibration, barely noticeable, that I atrributed to the style of tire.

I've replaced everything front and back minus inner tie rods. I am noticing inner wear which is normally indictive of outer tie rods etc. New set of tires, less than 3K miles.

At a loss as to why this is occurring again, so soon.

Video:

Many things can cause tire wear like that, not necessarily tie rod ends
Get a good alignment , plus did not mention if springs and shocks had been replaced , have they ?

Not sure if you watched the video, I replaced EVERYTHING minus inner tie rods. Springs front and back, bushings, nuts, bolts etc. It was a $1500 job in parts and materials.

Vid would not load, plus seen enough KJ suspensions aprt know what they look like

But get a good alignment , of course tires are already messed up so as soon as alignment is done rotate them. Won't make them stop wearing like that but will help a little

I'm just dumbfounded but I will rotate this weekend, and take to the local 4WD shop for further inspection and then depending on their findings, see if I can get Pep Boys to replace the tires if it's not of my doing. They should, I've bought two sets within the last year for our vehicles.

I would keep them on front UNTIL you get an alignment
Don't want the rear ones to start a bad wear pattern , cause once they start , they continue

Taking it to the local 4WD for inspection. He says Moog quality has gone down hill the past few years, he went through 4 sets of ball joints recently before switching to FoMoCo for his F-250.

Moog is crap now, even their Problem solver line. More like Problem Creator. I can't think of one Moog part that hasn't had to be replaced prematurely.

Shame. I guess MOPAR is the way to go, who makes theirs? Crazy if this proves to be the case with less than 5K. I greased them all with quality grease but as you say, quality control seems to be the issue

Napa brand seems to work ok for me.

really? I use to buy NAPA when I had my Fiero, had good results. But assumed Moog was superior which we see now is no longer the case.

We'll see what the shop says and go forward accordingly. May go ahead and upgrade to the OME springs/shocks as I got the Moog springs/Bilstein shocks for free due to an error on Amazon's part.

Been running Moog ones for last 4 years, no issues at all
Seems they had a run a few years ago with some defective materails

I pulled my archive orders to confirm if Amazon Prime, can't find the balljoints but pretty sure Amazon Prime. So wondering if old stock.

I'll know more when the shop inspects and can detail what the failure was, if my install or the parts.

Moog sway bar bushings never last for more than 2 years for me, had a set of sway bar end links that tore out in 6 months (replaced with OReilly's house brand 3 years ago, still good as new) and seem to replace one Moog UBJ per year. I think the tie rods I have from them are still ok. Steering rack bushings are bad.

Well, I guess the 4WD shop I paid a few months back to inspect my work failed me. Took the Jeep in to have my tire patched this morning as I had a nail, the tech pointed out the drivers side upper control arm had play, I moved it it myself to confirm. So either the bolt loosened or the new Moog UCA is defective. I also have some rack bushings on their way out, so this explains quite a bit. Also explains the noise from that side.

I will inspect the UCA tomorrow with the battery out, see if the bolt somehow loosened or else. May be time to upgrade to JBA UCA's like I should have from the beginning.

IMO, Moog is making less and less high-quality replacement parts. Some applications they do, but KJ's aren't one of them.

Also, If getting arms, get a moderate lift, and the corrected lifted arms.

I did a 2" lift deliberately - to fit the tires we wanted - but avoid the cost of aftermarket corrected arms. Turned out alignment was impossible, and needed the arms anyway.

I'm fairly certain the OE control arms are inherently flawed in their design from the get go. Should have more angle and length to them like the various corrected arms are aftermarket.

I'll upgrade to JBA's in the fall and OME springs. My end goal is 2" or less lift as I don't do much offroad other than hunting a few times a year. I just like having a rig to pull motos, go offroad within reason as needed.
