so there are no off the shelf antenna mounts for the KJ, there are some comments on the forums about using one from a dodge truck. some people put them back at the taillight and some on the tire carrier, or bumper. i wanted mine on the fender, through the gap at the hood. this is where i always run CB antennas.

so i hear and saw some distant photos claiming to use a dodge mount, so i went for it and here is what i did:

first, buy Firestik SS184, this is for a dodge truck and comes with the mounting stud for your antenna.

bend it just above the lower hole pattern. adjust the angle of the bend to fit your fender, but it was less than 90 degrees.

get 4 sheet metal screws, self drilling stainless steel. and you are good to go.
i threaded the cable through a hole in the inner fender, and then through the gap at the back of the fender near the door to the mount.
works great, very sturdy.

Not a good place to put any TX antenna as the peak RF is level with your head and RF is dangerous to living tissue! Plus it's below the main ground plane (the roof) which will negatively effect both the antenna tuning and the radiation pattern, greatly reducing the range of your CB on both TX and RX. The best place to mount an antenna to ensure bodily safety and for greatest range, would be above you, in the centre of the roof, which can be achieved, destructively, via a single hole drilled through the roof, to take a roof mount, or non destructively, via a mag mount. Failing that, fit a side mount bracket to one of the roof rails...It will be more directional but more mechanically sound than a mag mount and the extra height will increase your CB's range...Plus, it will be easier to tune.

I am using a similar mount on the space between the drivers tail light and the body. I have a 4ft antenna on a spring with a tennis ball on the antenna where it makes contact with the body.

These are stills from a video so the quality isn't too great but you can see what I'm talking about.
