Hello,

I will install a 2.5" OME lift kit (OME 927 / 948) with A-ARM JBA on my KJ 2002. But I still want to know which tires size to choose.

I would like to use the 245/75R16 but I fear that the gear is not suitable. I want to absolutely keep driving pleasure on the road without changing the original gear.

Did you an opinion? Thank you

Coming from someone who has a similar size with stock gears - Highway behavior is OK. Expect to have to downshift when going up any significant grade to keep speed. Expect about 2-3MPGs less than you would normally get. And expect some weird shifting/TC lockup patterns as the trans is not geared for that size tire.

It's still not terrible to drive as far as power and what not.

What he said
I drove my 04 with 245-70-16s, 245-75-16s, 255-70-16s, 265-70-16s and 265-75-16s so sort of have an idea.
Up to the 245-75s it bearable although it shifts more / uses more gas etc
But once I went to 4.10s , well lets just say that I just installed 265-70-16s ( almost same height as 245-75-16s ) on the 03 and will be going to 4.10s
A lot also depends on what ply rating/ what tread pattern etc
The ones I just installed are p rated so light weight etc

Thanks for your reply.

THe stock tire size is 235/70R16 and correspond at 29". If I have no problem with gears and TC, until how can I go ?

245/70R16 = 29,5" -> it's choice 1
255/65R16 = 29" -> no change
255/70R16 = 30" -> it's choice 2
245/75R16 = 30,5" -> too big

Please help me understand the pinion reset regarding tire size and transmission function. I've seen people say that it makes the ****** work at the correct speeds, but most times it's not even mentioned or mentioned only in terms of speedo calibration. It also doesn't seem to be an option in ABS versions according to my limited understanding of the service manual (though speedo calibration is). What's going on here?

Running 245/75R16s on stock gearing for ~50,000km here. Speedo is closer to accurate than stock. I can't speak for how it plays out with the auto trans though.

I have stock gears and run 245/75R16. I also have Quadratec Moab Alloy replicas. Not as heavy as forged but still pretty heavy. Concerning gears, I have noticed that it shifts a little bit more, but it's not very noticeable at all to me. I drive 90% in the city and it shifts and drives, what seems to me as normal, 100% of the time. I was getting 17mpg on stock tire size and am now averaging 16 mpg with new tires. I also went with all terrain tires cause I didn't want them to be very loud. I say go 245/75 R16, but if you want bigger, then you'll need to regear. Beyond 245/75 is the tipping point to me. I think 245/75 looks the best too. :p

Some people think it is good to increase the width of the tires (and even add wheel spacers)

An opinion on this ?

I think the width is more of a personal preference. I will be going with wider tires for my Titan when it comes time to replace them as I like the looks of them. I wouldn't bother with wheel spacers. I have heard good and bad with them but don't see the risk worth it. I have a friend who had one fail on his truck and watched his tire pass him down the highway. Had to replace his rotor, pads and caliper. They were a good brand and installed to spec.

Unlifted or Lifted?
If unlifted then installing spacers will create more rub etc so not worth it.
As far as width personal choice for sure but unlifted not much wider you can go anyways

For 2.5-3.5" lift what's the recommended max spacer for 245/75r16 or 265/70r16
Or would can it be wider for 255/70r16?

Sorry for hijacking the thread but staying on topic

Spacer ?
For the price of spacers you can find wheels with proper back spacing and width ( 4 inch backspacing / 7 inch width )
As far as tires, 245-75-16s and 265-70-16s are basically the same height with the 265-70s just a bit wider. 255-70s are smaller by 1/2 inch or so
Watch which tires you buy as far as ply rating ( I run standard or P rating due to being lighter weight)
255-70s you won't lose as much power and mileage as the others, comes down to personal choice and what tire you like as far as sizes they make in that design/ brand

I found the steering feel and handling improved with the extra 2.5" track width. (1.25" spacers). I only got two at first (front) . Tires and lift blew the rest of the budget.

Price of 4 spacers is around 100$ so I don't think you can find 4 new wheels for that.

Just put on 265/70r16s. Can't tell much difference in town. Highway I can tell a little change but not bad. Biggest change I've noticed is the steering is alittle stiffer. But that could be the new tie rod ends i put on before the wheel alignment after the lift.

I think that 255/70R16 is a good choice.

For information, with my previous Wrangler JK CRD, I had changed the stock tires on 32" for more large AT tires on 33". Therefore 1" more and the result was excellent.
