Have a loud clunking coming from the front of the KJ
Is in line with road speed
Goes off a bit when braking
To check I removed the drive shaft from the transfer case to the front wheels but still have the noise.jacked up the front wheels and when turning the diff input only one wheel turns, when turning one wheel the other does not turn at all and when turning that wheel the diff input does not turn.
My front diff knackered?

"It's in line with road speed" sounds like you have a brake component, likely caliper, loose.

Differential sounds perfectly normal for a non-locker.

Cheers I will take the wheels off and have a look
Was just surprised that when I turned the diff input (that I removed the front driveshaft from) that both wheels did not turn with the front up in the air but I don't really understand how it should work

If it goes away a bit when braking I'd say that's the culprit...I had a caliper come loose once, ruined a rim..

I can't see the vid due to some media format issue

If you do not discover an immediate brake problem, try to see if you have significant up/down play on the inboard CV on the passenger side. Use a short 18-24" prybar, but don't go crazy.

I agree with Cactus. From what I can hear the sound is either created by the intermediate shaft/CV flopping up and down as it rotates or a rotor/caliper issue.

Car is UK spec so when you say passenger side is that the one close to the front diff or furthest away?

Intermediate shaft will be on your driver's side. That could be it, I had a similar issue for a few years. Grab it where the CV joint goes onto the intermediate shaft, should be pretty tight. For the caliper inspection, see if any pads on one side are worn more than the other side.

I agree with Cactus. ...

You must be saying that because i didn't say anything? :happy175:
That noise I hear is like what my bad intermediate shaft was doing. See if the right hand side (when viewed from drivers seat) inboard cv axle hub has an excessive amount of up and down play when pushing up on it. And/or does it look like it's at a noticeable downward angle compared to the axle housing?
This is what my worn shaft and the new one looks like. The bad rounded end was allowing the hub to go flippity flop, resulting in a clunkity clunk.
