Ok guys I replaced mine a couple of months ago and now she's leaking right where the shaft goes into the housing. I am also getting terrible vibrations on the decline of a higher spot in the road. Why did it come or and how do I fix?

NEVERMIND! Found remanned on Napa's site. Now I just need clarification. I found two different lengths...

Found it. Thank you. Now hoping to get the axle length question answered. It's VAGUELY answered in other posts. I believe the longer one is the correct size.

You want the shorter one of the two you've listed for the right side - the longer one is for the CRD (front diff is shifted to the left on the CRD to make room for the engine.) So you want the 22.75" one for the right. For the left side you want the one that is 24.5".

For the intermediate shaft...

This is the one I bought. Fit perfectly.

-First things first you will need your new axle. Napa is your best bet. good axles with a lifetime warranty. The core charge on the axle is pretty hefty but you will get your money back later
-Second you will need a axle nut socket. I wouldnt spend any money on one unless your really really rough on the trails and plan on breaking some axles. Autozone has a loan a tool program where you pay for the tool but get all your money back. They dont have a 35mm like you need but they do have a 36mm and that works perfectly.

-Now time to get dirty, With the tires on the ground loosen the axle nut and lugnuts, i think on stock rims you have to loosen it with the tire off. Then hit the end of the axle with a big hammer once just to get it loosened up

-Jack up the front of the jeep and use a jackstand to secure the side your working on, and remove the tire.

-Remove the lower strut bolt and sway bar endlinks and then remove the clevis from the strut

-Remove ball joint nuts and pop the ball joint out of the hub. I used a strap to secure the hub from falling and messing up the brake line. Made the whole job a lot easier.

(remove everything that is marked in blue)

-Insert a pry bar between the transmission and the CV axle it will pop out pretty easy. Try to be easy on the axle seal and pull the axle straight out and not at an angle.

-Once the old one is out you can toss the new one right in its place.

-Put the axle through the hub with the axle nut finger tight to hold it in.

-Put the ball joints, sway bar link, and strut bolt back together.

-Put your wheel and lug nuts on, lower the jeep and tighten the lugnuts and axle nut. (stock rims may have to tighten axle nut while wheel is off)

-Return the old axle for your core money, and return the socket for that money back.

-Enjoy your new axle with lifetime warranty and its non greasy goodness!!!

Want to replace nuts on ball joint . Can you tell me the size ?? with metric nuts its all about the pitch and stuff . Thanks

Hey guys! I just ordered up the parts for these and am getting ready to get it done. I have a couple of questions:

1) Will a slide hammer be necessary/help me get the hub out?

2) Is there an axle seal or anything that I should worry about? Should I get one to replace while I'm in there?

PS - I'm doing the passenger side.

I didn't use a slide hammer, just a 2-jaw puller as that's all I had on hand. I have a slide hammer now, but I'm not sure it's needed.

No axle seal for the hub assembly.

Thanks for that! Should help greatly. :D As far as the axle seal goes though, is there an axle seal between the CV axle and the tube?

PS - I was gonna say I might swap out the hub while I'm in there as preventative maintenance but DANG are they not cheap.

No there isn't. The axle cv hub is connected (splined) to the intermediate shaft, but there is a seal inside the tube sealing against the intermediate shaft. If you're not removing/replacing the intermediate shaft, and the seal isn't leaking, I'd leave well enough alone and not open another can o worms.
As far as the wheel bearing hub, Timken brand at rockauto is $140.89. Is that what you're considering Dang expensive? Check your current one when the tire is off the ground and still on the Jeep. Grab the tire top and bottom and try to rock it. If the bearing is bad, you'll feel the play.

I might order up that seal just to have it on stand by in case it gets messed up. If not, I'll leave it.

I'm 23 and still paying college loans. I need every $140.89 that I can get. :emotions34:

When I replaced my intermediate shaft, I didn't bother with the seal. It wasn't leaking before, and isn't after.
If rocking the wheel shows no deflection, and it spins smoothly, then don't worry about it. Save the money for more important stuff.

Just to throw this out as well- when I went to pull my CV shaft on the drivers side - it would not come out. I ended up getting a BFH and finally with a good solid pop it came out. Unfortunately- the reason it wasn't coming out was the C clip inside that attaches in the groove in the splines, was somehow caught and rotating it did not realign it. When I finally popped it out, the c clip broke in two- only one piece coming out with the CV shaft. After some thought on whether or not to pull the diff apart to search for the missing half of the c clip- I decided to put my magnet on a stick inside the diff through the axle hole to see if I could fish it out. Lo and behold out came the other half of the c clip. Appears from EVERYWHERE this never happens, but if it does - just get a magnet in there!

So for replacing the passenger side cv and intermediate shaft, is there a seal on that end of the diff that needs to be replaced? Or all the seals in the intermediate shaft and CV? Is the intermediate shaft held in with snap rings?
