Interesting title, I know. But I was trying to go for a kill all on everything that I found today. Wasn't really able to find any information on any of it in the search, so I figured I'd ask.

1) What are the size bolts needed for the engine skid plate? I thought it was the same bolts as the hitch. Doesn't seem to be true.

2) I have rust forming on 1 door (and 1 door only...). What's a good way of repairing it? It's starting to show a little bit on the exterior too.

3) I found a lot of grease/oil right below the oil filter and all over the brake lines. It is right by a boot, but I didn't see a tear in said boot. Anyone know what it can be? I'm just assuming it's oil that got caught after many oil changes. I wiped it off and will be power washing the underside of the Jeep within the week.

Thanks for the help everyone!

For the rust, I'd either look for a new door (a silver sport door shouldn't be hard to find) or grind it out completely, use something like POR15 and paint over it. Once you do have a clean surface, wash once a week and wipe down all that stuff a few times in the season with silicone spray.
On the subject of rust, check under the 3rd brake light and the area up there. And check this thread:

See what you find...hopefully there's nothing there and it's not too late to do some preventive maintenance.

That looks like engine oil to me, I'd clean it and watch.

Figured just as much. I have no problem sanding it out and painting over it. It's basically what I expected to to. Same for the oil. Just wanted to get more than one opinion.

Thanks a bunch!

Other opinions still totally welcome!

Did you see my edit?

Ah yes! I haven't checked where you pointed out yet. As for the third tail light, well, mine is currently stuck in place and not going anywhere any time soon... >.> I caulked it up because it was leaking at some point because I switched out the tail light.

I've got some rust issues to attend to once spring sticks around. A little light sanding with the dremmel and then use the POR-15 that's been sitting on my kitchen table since November. You don't want to sand all the rust off before applying the POR-15 - it needs some to adhere to.
WHAT IS THE BEST SURFACE ON WHICH TO PAINT POR-15?
POR-15 likes rusted surfaces best. Seasoned metal and sandblasted
metal are also good. POR-15 does not adhere well to smooth, shiny
surfaces, but will adhere well with the use of Marine Clean and Metal
Ready preps.

Check out the usage instructions: http://www.por15.com/Data Sheets/POR15ApplicationInfo.pdf

In terms of your oil, looks like you may have lost your oil pressure sending unit - it lives just above and to the left of your oil filter (as you're looking at it from the front). It's about $40 for the part, and easiest to change while the filter is out... so do it when you do your next oil change.

Could be possible. I had a CEL awhile ago about it, but it hasn't occurred since months ago. I'm gonna clean it up and see if the leak is truly there.

I've used POR-15 on the bottom of my front doors, a little section on the rear gate and around the upper brake light. I just got rid of the flaking surface material and painted the POR-15 on with a foam brush. Since my KJ is black I didn't worry about blending or painting over it with other paint - so far so good!

Good to know. I was going to hit all the affected areas on mine too, but I'll have to look into the color match paint to go over it to lessen the 'ghetto-ness' look on my silver KJ. :disgust: Luckily, there's not too much exterior rust visible.

I have some starting under the rear glass, specifically on the seams. A little on the seams on the lower part of my driver's door, and some on the seams of the rear tailgate.

And I have the common bubbling above the rear glass on the outside, although no rust has come through the paint yet. Still going to sand it and take care of that too.

I have rust in all the same places as Jayme ... and the bottom of the rear passenger door. It's kind bizzare that my front Pass and rear Drvrs doors look brand new and the other two are rusted through the paint.

I found a replacement tailgate today (with no rust), so now I don't have to work on that area anymore. Everything else tho.

Got pics? I'm just curious so I know which areas to pay closer attention too and to see how the rust forms.

That's the way mine is. I seem to have remedied it. I just sanded the part on the outside of the Jeep. Sure it's lacking paint but I'll paint over it when i get the chance. It's hardly noticeable now.
