Hey guys! Couple of questions i think you guys might be able to help with. Anyone know how to get the fog light bulb out of the Jeep? Also, what does a bad water pump sound like? I think I might have one.

What year KJ? If an 05+, just take the grill off, and above each fog light there is a screw to take the lens off.

Gawww forgot to mention that. '04. I think I figured it out, but they don't twist off. I think they're stuck. :\ All i need is to get the bulbs. I don't need to take the lens off or anything crazy like that.

A bad Water pump will usually sound like a "wooo" when the engine is running normal. The easiest way to do the audio test is to find it with the engine off, then monitor that location to differentiate it from the ambient engine noise. The other telltale will be a noticeable sweat on the seal of the shaft. If it is beyond a sweat, you should have the new pump in stock...

To access fog light, is in fender up front with a little plastic door.
It does twist out, counter clockwise I believe. Use a bit of WD-40/hairdryer heat to twist em free after removing the wiring clip. Dirt gets onto rubber seal and sticky city.
Note you can greatly improve the wattage of the fog lights by using 9005 ST bulbs.
I used silverstars and a simple mod to one of the tabs is needed to install those 65 watt bulbs.
What a difference with the 9005ST's If you get them and have question about tab mod PM me.

Ah really? I already grabbed the stock bulbs. But definitely something to think about. But you're right though! I can't twist the ******* thing out of the socket!!!!! I've used all of the above. Except heat. I should use heat I suppose...

I run PIAA 9007 Extreme White in the main headlights which also are a huge improvement over stock.

Nothing to do on wire/clips.
In the PM, it is just compare the stock bulb to the new 9005ST and it becomes obvious which part of the plastic tab needs to be trimmed on the new 65watt bulb, to fit our housing.
The tab mod came from Jeep projects link that has since gone away and had the photos to explain it better.
I have searched my computer and only found one screen capture that I took from a year ago! Does not show it the best but best I can do to explain it without having to pull one of my fog lights to do a real side by side.

One tab needs to be trimmed on 9005ST. I have marked the tab with X that I thought was the one that needed trimming. Just compare them side by side and you will see one is a bit too long.
Cut the tab to match the stock bulb. Done. Enjoy your bright new SilverStar fog lights!

The bulb on left is the stock fog bulb. One tab need to be trimmed on 9005ST.
Cut the tab to match the stock bulb. Done. Enjoy your bright new SilverStar fog lights!

Tim, your OCD habits pay off! arty52: This is awesome - I was just complaining last night while driving in mist/rain/snow flurries that the OEM fogs don't cut thru like I'd like. You've posted this before but with the pic you found this shows it's a no-brainer. Will be doing this mod next week...

Wait...Does this qualify as a mod since I only have to trim the tab on the 9005? Feel like I'm cheating my mod list :gr_grin:

FYI, just did some online checking on the 9005-ST's and for those of you stateside AutoZone has a $10 rebate on the Silverstars - $40 minus the rebate, you get the pair for $30.

Pretty good for a significantly improved bulb.

Ya no problem but I just had to edit the photo as I think I had the bulbs marked wrong.
So once again I hope I got this right. It is really too bad that their site from Jeep projects is gone. SO if anyone else has got a screen capture of a 3 pics that really did it justice, feel free to post them. I know It may be confusing ..one day when it is warmer I actually should take my modded fog bulb out and show exactly which damn tab needs trimming with a real side by side photo. I think by comparing them though you should be able to make it happen.

I just used a sharp knife,takes about 10 seconds per bulb.Remember not to touch the bulb glass.


Just a heads up also those 9005's are a bit to much for the stock foglight wiring.Use the 9005's at your own risk.Yes I have run them since '02 but I'm alos on my 10th or 11th bulb connector as they get to hot and start melting.During the summer it's not a major issue as I do not to alot of driving in the dark during the summer.The winter is another story since it get's dark at 5pm so I check the connector ends every 1-2 weeks and replace as needed.I carry a few spares at all times,there cheap at most autoparts stores.

Hmmm...not sure I would want to constantly be spending the time re-wiring that. Has anyone else had this problem?

there are two bulb options in 05. My wifes KJ takes the 9145 so this mod should probably work then too?

The other option bulb is H3.

I'm PRETTY damn sure the fog in the grille is a completely different assembly.

hmmmmmm. it takes the same 9145 bulb as the 02-04 so it should have the same connector and such right?
