Why can't I get my tires to mount on Moabs.

Today I took my newly aquired Moabs(16x8) to the garage to have my current tires on the rims. When the mechanic tried to bead the tires..they wouldn't come up over the bead. We tried everything and still no luck.

Has anyone else had a problem getting their tires on the Moab rims?

Currently I run 235/70/16 tires. There shouldn't be any diffrence what size of tire I install. A 16" rim is a 16" rim right? The only thing thats diffrent is the area where the bead slips up to go into place. There is a sharp angle there, not like the stock rims where this same area is alot more rounded and smooth.

The only reason I can think of is the tire isn't wide enough. The stockers are 16x7 and moab rims are 16x8. Try taking it to another tire shop and maybe you'll have better luck there. If that doesn't work you might need to get 245/70 tires which is wider than your current 235/70.

Yeah maybe so. I was also thinking on getting some 245/75 16's which actually come on the Moabs. Just scratchin' my head about it all.

You can fit those on a stock liberty. Need a lift. But you should have a problem getting those to fit on the rim.

To my knowledge, a 235 width tire wont work with an 8 inch wide wheel. You are going to need a 245 width tire for the MOABs. I'll most likely be getting a 245/70 16 Firestone destination A/T once my MOABs come in sometime next week. The 245/75s are going to be too big unless you do some major major trimming. Hope this helps!

Your going to ruin your tires with that setup. And expect alot of flats, broken belts and sidewall blowouts.

And 235's are to narrow for 16x8 rims,245's are just barely wide enough to work on 16x8 rims.I run 265/75's on 16x7 rims,it's stamped right on the tires I run to mount on a 16x7 rim to work right and last.
