she's quite a bit rough, having been a Queens ride for 7 years. however, it's a stick, the bones are good, and the interior will probably clean up pretty well, I can replace the carpet kit, and the exterior cosmetic issues are all bolt-on parts. the doors are clean, the underside is clean. it needs a clutch.

plan is to get the mechanicals done, give the interior a good scrubbin', and not worry about the exterior for now. worst case, it's a manual drive drivetrain swap into different, cleaner shell, or we get a blown up with good cosmetics and swap them in and repaint.

wasn't all without incident though. on the way out, this box truck merged into the trailer and took out a wheel/tire, on the BQE.

Finally found the source of the annoying ckunk in my 05...the Iron Rock off-road boomerang diff joint. Seems the shell wasnt properly secured. The through bolts departed and the structural parts of the joint and bracket beat the shit out of the pivot assembly.
OH well. 50 bucks for that part, and another 40 for 2 sets of bushings to have on hand.
While I'm at it, buying the D44a truss for the axle swap into my wife's 94 ZJ.

EDIT - I should point out, this is entirely my fault. I didn't properly torque the side plates that hold the bushing together. No complaints with IRO at all. This was the fault of the dumb monkey holding the wrench.... Me.

Got the wife a new rig yesterday. 2009 Mercury Mariner Premier V6 AWD. It’s actually on the basic side of premier. It has leather heated seats, factory subwoofer, accent lighting, and upgraded audiophile software in the radio. There’s still a lot to look at.

Wanna know what this car has in common with a lot of our Liberties? I suspect it of a bad intermediate shaft!

My brother in law and I put another 500 miles on the jeep for this trip.

Been blowing through ignition coils for some reason. About 3 years back I replaced all 6 with ngk coils and had one go bad on me last year leaving me stuck with a bad cat from the misfire. Now I just had 2 more go bad within a couple days of each other. Replaced the bad ones with blue streak coils. Planning on replacing the last 3 when O'Reillys gets them back in stock

Ordered those parts after work on Thursday.... They're in Minnesota, IIRC....
They are supposed to be delivered today... In Charleston, SC.... I paid for the 'get to it when you get to it', cheapest shipping.
Yeah, I am impressed. This is why they have been my go-to shop when I need stuff they happen to build....

EDIT - now arriving tomorrow. Still pretty damn quick considering the weather....

anyone know if someone makes a replacement clutch and flywheel for the NSG370, that isn't a dual mass flywheel?
trying to plan what I might want to get for this 06 fix.

I wasn’t sure what that was, so I had to google it. Would it be possible to adapt a flywheel and clutch assembly from an earlier AX15 set up?

heck if I know.
I'm hoping the flywheel isn't scorched, and I can just do a pressure plate and disc on the 06.
but first we need more snow to melt.

FYSA to anyone installing this... The 6 Allen head screws go to 70 in-lb first, then 85.
Alsi, they come with nykok nuts. After having had one failure, we are using blue threadlocker on them this time, just to belt-and-suspender this

I too would like that information
I haven’t heard of any
Is yours weak feeling?
When I replaced mine last time it has felt soft ever since.
I have another one ready that I’m going to try but would love to get away from the dual mass

Well, that replacement went quick. Went to grease the other joints (smaller version of the joint above, a derivative/cousin of Johnny Joints and Rubicon Express joints) and my son fiddled around with his grease gun for a half hour trying to get them greased without luck-grease just constantly pouring out of the grease gun fitting despite him using wrenches to tighten it up... So I Introduced him to the LockNLube fitting (https://a.co/d/0g5wFG48), which I discovered about 10 years ago. It takes the frustration out of doing your own grease service. Yes it's expensive, much the same reason why divorce is expensive.... It's worth it.

They also have a right-angle adapter that is well worth the money... https://a.co/d/07far7U0

Expensive at about $50 for two fittings? Yes. But in this day of rising costs and declining customer service (seriously, bet you the average 'grease service' is half just wiping fresh grease on the nipples so it looks like it was done), if you can do it yourself, do so. This will save hours of frustration with grease couplers. Plus, having the tight grip, you can blast though a lot of stubborn, stuck check balls in zerk fittings.

I sound like a commercial, I know. I'm not affiliated with them, just a happy customer

Now the worst part of the job.... Trying to get the axle in just the right place so the bolt that holds the bigass hiem joint in will go through.
Literally the last part. It's always a bitch. But not as bad as that overgrown, Ill-suited TRE the factory put there...

Got it. Once again, ratchet straps and old guy tricks save the day. Ran the strap with one hook in the crossmember, around the back of the c- channel assembly that came with the IRO upper arm kit, other hook to the other side of the transmission x-member. Tightened it a bit at a time as I watched it, stabbed the bolt, and 5.minutes later we are back in service.

About 2 hours of work. I mostly watch and provide an extra hand to pull this, push that, go get me the other, etc... Until he has an issue like he did getting the axle back in place - it was able to move about 1.5" side to side with the blown joint. Then I imagineer some shit and solve the problem.

He made 100 bucks in 2 hours, not all of which was his effort. I'm good with it.
