thought it was time for an update after finally getting rid of the front end clunk. last weekend finally got around to doing the clevis lift and now sitting at 21&1/2" at the back and 21" at the front also made up a transmission skid plate and bolted that on. then went for a drive up to my hut in the back country which can be a bit treacherous with 8 river crossings each way and shingle river beds to traverse. thought i would take a short cut and see how far i could get and as you can see from the photo, not very far before i completely sunk in soft wet gravel

the skid plate is made from 4mm steel plate with the edges turned up to give a bit of strength and slotted at the front to slide in between the front cross member and front skid plate, and a few drain holes and hole to get at the oil drain plug

Took the Liberty to work today, taking my son and I to day 1 of 2, of a local Appleseed shoot. Came within 15 points of getting my Rifleman patch. Would have done better if I'd not gotten tired at the end. Spending all day in an outdoor range in 90 degree temps (before the heat index is calced) will really take it out of you. Especially when you are doing it on 3 hours sleep.
About to hit the shower, take some ibuprofen and acetaminophen, and hit the rack... Back out to do it again tomorrow.

It’s been an eventful week and weekend on the Jeep front for me.

On Wednesday we sold our 07 Jeep Commander so we are back to having just one vehicle, the 08 KK Liberty. The Liberty had been parked for a month due to a bunch of work that needed done, but the safety issue was a rear upper control arm bushing that had disintegrated. So, this weekend, I went all in on repairing the Liberty and getting it road worthy again.

In the last two days I…
- rebuilt the front driveshaft with a new transfer case end CV
- installed the front driveshaft
- installed the passengers side rear upper control arm
- oil change
- dropped the fuel tank
- installed the drivers side rear upper control arm (fuel tank blocks a critical bolt)
- reinstalled the fuel tank
- test drove it, found a clunk in front
- removed drivers side sway bar link which had a seized bolt. Melted the rubber bushing on the link in the process
- test drove it again, clunk went away
- ordered a pair of Mopar sway bar links
- ordered a pair of Mopar rear bump stops as the originals were disintegrating

So, no highway driving for Jeepy until the front sway bar links are installed, but she is ok for grocery getting and taking me to work. It is supposed to rain all week so I am happy to have a working vehicle!

Did the same Sunday, and apparently I forgot everything I ever knew about shooting. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at first. Improved near the end. Still and all, best I managed was 60 points south of a Rifleman patch.
Considering I did this with a newly built rifle, never shot before that Saturday, and having just nodded the bolt release, installed a new mag release, not chamfered the magwell (because I was dumb and forgot to apparently), and with a newly installed Picatinny rail and scope, having not so much as boresighted it, it isn't horrible. But I was so frustrated I think I'd have packed up and called it a day had my son not been along.

I just ordered my links for ;my 2007, and some new bushings. That rear upper on mine needs done, not sure if its the same on the new models, I have the boomarang shape one.

hi, i live in New Zealand so probably not really practical, but total cost was under $75nz, just made up a carboard template first
Always wanted to go there, luv watching the crime dramas I get on BritBox and Acorn with New Zealand as the filming locations. Do they call the liberty there the liberty, I though in Australia and NZ they had a different name.

Pretty sure it's pronounced 'Cherokee' over there...

yep NZ and Aussie it's called a Cherokee had it for 17 years now.

Not technically today but might be of some interest, custom rebuilt rockers and door bottoms using 6mm galvanized steel

Nice, every time I work on my cars, it reminds me how talented my bro was that past away last year. He was an artist and a wizard when it came to this stuff, I can do mechanical but have no bone in my body that lets me mold metal or weld or paint it. Those look good. I sold my little car that was a partial project yesterday to focus on my Jeep and my Avy, both in some state of work being done with my bro as we were wrenching every weekend our schedules met up. I got the family discount, still kicked him some cash, but now to get stuff done that looks good I have to come out of pocket. I got better doors and 2 were done, other 2 are work in progress. My rockers I will have to figure out, or $$ to someone for those , problem I have is my bottom lip is gone at the pinch weld. Mine is and 07 with covers, so I was thinking going full steel like the other ones so it doesn't look fine one day then next my cover fall off seeing the rot. I was thinking of cutting it up to the edge and using some steel box, or some sort pipe or tube, or possibly modify a set of those rock guards they use on the 4 door wranglers, they are long enough they bolt on with an odd angle so if I cut mounts off and tack brackets on they may work but would be really heavy to tack to body, that was one thing my bro always said make sure the metal is similar gauge, as one time I got some sheet metal that to was heavy and hard to mold and weld to the flooring of the bug, but he made it work, guy had skills that are missed by many. He mainly used a small welder, and did wonders with it, I got a cheap one he was going to show me, and life changed. I'll figure it out.
