I’d rather buy used OEM than aftermarket.

That's a good idea…if the boot is still in good condition, I have heard of people removing one or both of the ear (Oetiker) clamps, sliding the boot back and then adding grease to the CV joint itself and finally reinstalling new ear clamps to seal the deal.

winched in the parts jeep. gonna reinstall the trans and bits, so I can start it, sort out why there was a misfire, and put the engine up for sale.

what years will a mid-06 engine cross into? maybe a 2011? not that I like them, but I could get a bad engine one for about a grand, stuff this lump in it, and hopefully sell it for 3 grand?

Test tow of the Liberty behind my PU truck. Just a couple of trips around the block making sure things like steering and braking and lights all work properly. Went well but she's a heavy fu....r.

My last TOAD was a FIAT 500. The Jeep weighs almost twice as much. I'm going to notice that when I tow it behind my motorhome up and down the mountains we have out west. GVWR is real.

I think I will pick up a low mileage (106k) replacement at a nearby junkyard on Monday. I’d rather buy used OEM than aftermarket.
This past Friday I found a driver's side axle from a 07. The Lib it's out of was wrote-off in 09 and the shaft has been sitting on the guys shelf for over 16 years. Must have been waiting for me to come along I guess lol. Only 14k miles on it.

well this *****.
worked my **** off on the parts jeep, putting the broke transmission in. left the torque converter disconnected. only reason really i'm putting it in is to hook up the starter. got everything done... and now the engine is acting like it's locked up. can't even bar the engine over. BTW, the engine turns CLOCKWISE, when looking at it from the front. gonna try and just getting the 4 remaining bolts removed or at least loosened enough I can kick the trans backwards a bit and see if I can bar over the engine then.

does anybody know if, the 07's with their drive by wire, do some kind of torque limiting? I've long felt for the entire time I've owned this thing, that sometimes the computer isn't giving me all the beans this thing can make. If it does, is there a way to get it to cut it out?

I bet they do, but I’ve found that can be mitigated by dumping the clutch.

In all seriousness, I’ve never felt like I was lacking too badly in my ‘07. It seems like the traction control is the only issue.

I've noted many times that, it accelerates just as "hard" (same rate of change for speedo) in 1st through 5th, regardless of how hard I press on the throttle. That's physically impossible unless it's doing some kind of torque limiting program. Also, it struggled to climb a hill in 2nd gear at 20mph, yet the same rough gradient it was doing fine in 5th at 60mph. Another indication it's torque limiting.

Makes me want to even more get this 06 stick working sooner rather than later, and see if it just flat out works better.

I have not experienced anything like that in mine except for when the traction control takes over. That said, I can power right through the brakes in first gear, so I don’t believe there is any kind of torque modulation.

I have spent an hour trying to get my puller to engage the harmonic balancer. I've tried two different legs but no luck. I have this puller.

LINK

It's cold and windy and I can't see a thing. I thought I was home free when I got the bolt out. Silly me.

had to pull the broke trans out of the parts jeep. torque converter apparently popped out and got stuck. now debating not even putting the converter in at all, since the trans will have no fluid anyways, and I don't want to cause something else inside of it to seize up while I test the engine.

I did it! Since I was trying to see what I was doing with a hand mirror, I was confusing the hell out of myself-right was left, up was down. I was lost.

The trick was to clock the pulley so that one leg of the puller would be at 12 o'clock. Once you know that, the other two legs have to fall exactly where they need to be. Literally five minutes after rotating the pulley, it was off and on my bench.

Do you have a lift or are you doing this all on your back?
