I am getting noise in full time 4wd and it barely pulls. Will pull for a stort stretch but then stops. I did a whole section in part time and once it slipped into not pulling. Has to stop put it 2wd and back into part time. Its a grinding noise but not a deep or loud noise. More like a whine.

I would check the transfer case and front diff. If you are lucky it could be something as simple as the range selector cable on the transfer case needing adjusting.

Well I just changed the front diff. I think that's my problem. The front driveshaft is spinning in full time 4wd and nothing else is happening. That's got me really confused because in part time the front is engaged and pulling. That should not even be possible.

Any ideas on how to isolate what's going on? Some kind of front driveshaft issue? What is strange is the only thing happening when its in full time is that the front drive shaft is turning and making noise. Shimmed wrong? Bad locker..I did but it used but acutally it looked like it hand never been installed. The rear had for sure been run and its working.

The front DTT is not pulling under a load. If you jack it up the driveshaft truns with the wheel but if you jack just the rear end up and put it in part time 4wd the driveshaft turns but the differential is just making noise and slightly pulling. And ideas as to what"s going on with the DTT? The rear is working perfect.

I call Eaton and pretty much a DTT would have to be hand grenaded to not work. So something somewhere is stripped.

Ok something is not right about the left side axle. Should the big part of the housing be flush with the differential? When its lifted it looks like its way to far out and the inner joint is in a pretty bad bind. But when weight is on the suspension the axle is straight but it does not look like its far enough inside the differential. Like possibly the axle is to short. They are new also and I checked the part number but I don't remember putting them beside the old ones to check. I did get alxes for a 3.7 and the front end is out of a 4 cylinder. I'm wondering now if the axle is wrong.

Do you mean the intermediate shaft? If so then all are the same 4 cylinder/ 3.7 etc. What CV did you get for the right side, if *utozone and other places like those they are known to be short.

No Tom the right side looks good. Its the driver side that does not look right. Should that axle go all the way in flush with the differential? I got new axles from NAPA.

Its not exactly flush but close, trying to find a picture to show but
But nothing is turning when on the ground in front, I mean its not locking in and pulling or???

Are you saying you have a 3.7 and replaced the entire front axle assembly from a 4 cylinder? If so, your differential gears are different (3.73 rear/4.10 front) and they are fighting each other when in 4wd.

I do have a entire front axle out of a 4 cylinder. I also have a rear so both gears are now 4.10's. The rear is working fine but I'm havening issues with the front. The left side axle looks like its not far enough inside the differential. Its either the wrong axle or I didn't get it installed correctly. My question now is even if I changed front diff out of a 4 cylinder I would still use axles for a 3.7 right?

Yes 3.7 CVs, did you change out the mounts as well?

well no wait you would have since the right side is OK we can assume.
So with all 4 tires off the ground can you get anything out of the front?

No I used the same mounts...the diff bolted up with no problems and yea the right side looks good. I ran it with the front off the ground and the left has wobble..does not look right but the wheel does turn.
