We had the lower ball joints recalled for 02-06 Liberties.
NOW it is the UPPER ball joints that are being investigated for 22 incidents.
NHTSA mention 2002-03, but assume that again will mean 02-06..WOW...

ALL I CAN TELL YOU IS INSPECT YOUR JEEP FOR ALL SUSPENSION REGULARLY !!

Has anyone had to replace their Upper Ball joints and story appreciated.

Mine checked out AOK last week. Have to keep an eye on that recall info though.

Cheers,
Luke

Ball Joints..

Hey Luke,
Ya keep an eye out on your front end..forget waiting for a recall, If you read the link, it can be dangerous to your health esp if you are doing highway speeds. I would say to have a look under there and make sure it is all tight before hitting the highway, and get it inspected on the hoist twice a year.
I just sent a private email to ya as well..

I've replaced the left side twice - first time was due to nipping the rubber boot when installing my lift, then the replacement I got free from another owher had a tiny little hole in the boot; it lasted about six months until I could find a pair in good shape from another AZ owner who had switched to Al's Arms. So far it seems OK, I check it regularly to make sure the lift isn't straining it.

What changed for the 2007 year?

I check mine every 5,000 miles when I change the oil and rotate the tires. Granted, I only have 26k on the vehicle, but all seems well so far.

Nothing as far as I know unless they did something when the LBJ recall went down. The last upper arm I put in was off an '05 and it looked identical (didn't check the part #'s tho).

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
22 complaints out of 1.2 million vehicles.....................

I'd say that is of no concern and just part of mass production where you will have some bad parts,it happens and is not Jeep specific problem either.

They closed the investigation on this topic in April of 2008...unless a bunch more start to fail there is nothing new going to develop as far as a recall.

I check my suspension out thoroughly every oil change and every tire rotation.. Something everyone should do if you care about your life..

I do that for all of our vehicles..

agree with tjkj, pretty common on any vehicle made to have a few problems like that, mine had over 70,000 on them lifted (over 105,000 total) and they still could be used yet, good and tight.
But just check them ya never know

Cosed Subject to engineering analysis

It would sound like it still remains open subject to an engineering analysis.

How many miles on your vehicle? Just wear or What caused them to become cactus?
Were there any driving related problems noticeable, that gave you a hint to crawl under and inspect them?
