I have an 06 Liberty 2 wheel drive with 132k miles on it. Recently when driving the trans seemed like it slipped around 50mph. It slipped quite a bit more but not all the time and not consistently. Sometimes during acceleration or just cruising. The RPMs aren't jumping when it does it and there is no check engine light. I've since had the fluid drained not flushed and a new filter put on. Mechanic said there was no metal shavings or burnt smell and the filter was still good but put a new one on anyhow. Since the new fluid it has only slipped once. Anyone have a similar problem? Possibly electrical?

You made sure that ATF+4 was used in the ****** and nothing else, right?

Just had the mechanic take care of it. Sorry I'm a 22 year old female. Not really my expertise. To my knowledge only trans fluid was added. No stop slip or anything like that was added.

Yes, but which transmission fluid? If it wasn't ATF +4, take it to your nearest dealer and have the fluid flushed and filled with ATF +4. They don't like anything else.

I don't have the slightest idea, I'll check tomorrow and see what kind. The problems were happening before the transmission was serviced.

What they're saying is that if ATF+4 was not put back in it by your mechanic, you're going to have a lot more problems than you already have.

Lol I understand what they're saying, I'm going to check into it. But right now I'm more interested in finding out what could possibly be happening to my transmission.

The fluid is what actually makes an automatic transmission shift and operate. So what the others are saying is that if the mechanic put in any transmission fluid OTHER than ATF+4 then the transmission will not operate correctly.

The problems you experienced before may have been corrected with a fluid change - but if the wrong fluid was put in then the existing problem will be compounded with other/new problems.

Let us know what your mechanic says and we'll go from there!

Bob
