Well...if you're buying it as a 4x4, I wouldn't be surprised if it costed more than a used 4x4 KJ would've, after restoring it, if possible.

But if really want an MJ...I guess, they are rare.

around here that MJ would fetch about $750
provided it is running better than it looks
and the 4wd works
remember that it has just under 120K on it which is not to bad for the 4.0
considering that they commonly go over 200K

remove the doors
aftermarket bumpers (home made)
6" lift
33's
trail beater

MJ's have some advanatages over XJ's ( & some disadvantages).

They have an actual rear boxed frame attached to a front subframe and are much more structurally stiff. Still, they probably are not as stable as a KJ which is light years ahead of an XJ. The extra wheelbase is great in some areas, but the rear overhang, especially of the long bed, can be a problem.

Everything from the doors forward shares with an XJ, but MJ specific parts can be hard to find. Rear suspension is SUA whihc means a cheap SOA swap can get you 5-6" of lift. Add cheap XJ coils or coil/spacer combo to the front, mod the stuff for the extra lift, and have at it.

Floor pans rotted badly, which is troublesome for a unibody even with the rear frame.

That 4.0/AW4 drivetrain is a dandy, but it most likely has a junk D35 rear end. HPD30 is decent front end for what it is, much better than the LP junker found it CJ's & TJ's. Vacuum disconnect on th efront axle is a pain, but can be bypassed or replaced for cheap ( homebuilt) or for $200 by buying a kit.

What are you tempted for? Thing's a POS. Find another one. Seriously.

If you must have it, don't give them more than $400 for it.

looks like about average price for average truck to me.... hard to find them for less than $800 here. yeah it's a little rough... but if it helps keep you from banging the hell out of your liberty... it's worth it for sure!

It is located just two blocks from "beautiful downtown Hanover"... so that beefs the price a bit right there.

Only 119k miles for a 1987? What, this thing just been sitting in the driveway for the last 23 years?

And for a truck with only 119k, it sure is beat to living hell. So it essentially sat in the driveway for 23 years, while someone repeatedly hit it with a sledgehammer. WTF?!!

oh, MJ. My first Jeep was an 88 MJ Pioneer. If it is an 87 standard then beware because although it is a 4.0L it has the Renault EFI setup that is prone to have problems. These MJ's also came with the less-than-desirable 5-speed Peugout BA-10 transmissions... (er, paperweights lol)

I probably won’t get it because it is really banged up but I’ve always liked the Comanche’s. I am looking around for an older Jeep. So if you know of a good one for sale let me know guys.

I think most of you are missing the point
he has a 2wd KJ ,useless off road
this is a 4wd MJ ,good off road
this can be had for $750 ,provided it is running good and strong
no it is not a beauty queen ,who needs that in a trail rig
if you plan to "restore" it then no this is no good if you plan to wheel it
then by all means this is a good deal
keep in mind that you can spend a few bucks and set up the 2wd KJ to flat tow the
MJ making it so the running condition is not important
as long as the wheels are on and the tie rod is still connected you can get home

As much as I like the Jeep/trucks, it does look a little 'banged-up'. I would pay through the nose to have one of these:

But he can pull the bed and cut the frame... If it's a trail rig then the bed is going to be worthless in no time, best to just take it off and save yourself some trail damage...

If you are looking for a 4X4 for any off-road use, then a long bed is not what you want.

Real Jeeps are built not bought
bob the tail end off to keep the longer wheel base
longer wheel base ,some times, helps

I should just buy the effing thing
here is what I see for it
keep the 4.0 ,231 and AW4
trash the Dana 35 and go 8.8 and SOA and anti wrap
keep the HP 30 and add some 6" XJ springs and long arms
spool the rear and Detroit the front
regear to 4.88
pull the doors off and make some tube doors
get a new front bumper
loose the bed and build a cage with a tool box for storage
bob the rear at the spring hangers
slap on some 33's and wheel like you paid $750 for it
you are looking at a cost well under 5K ,provided you do most of the work your self or through
friends paid in pizza and beer
