I buy and sell Liberty's that are in need of mechanical fixes. I've noticed that a lot of ebay vehicles that have bad engines are being bid WAY UP then the buyer never shows. I just talked with a guy in East TN that had an 02 w/188k miles, blown engine and half apart that "sold" for $2600 - he said the buyer never showed. Another Liberty just sold in West TN - same problem for $2850. What's the deal?

I would bet the buyer was unaware of the blown engine part. There really are people that just don't pay attention. They are the ones that shouldn't be buying vehicles on Ebay. I wouldn't put it past some people.

It is just not EBay its everywhere no matter what or where you sell. Craigslist is real bad anymore. I have been buying and selling Jeep and Harley parts for over 35 years, and it keeps getting worse I think.
I've had people ask me to find something and then not take it after I got it in. I am stuck with a 250 dollar light due to a deal like that.
But you move on and deal another day:happy175:

There was a recent post on consumerist. Person selling gold coins (I believe it was gold coins, but coins none the less) valued around $4xx. He shipped everything carefully and got FULL value insurance for the package.

Long story short, buyer claims the box was empty, filed complaint with ebay and paypal. They sided with ebay and buyer got his money back (and assumed to have kept the coins). Now the seller cannot file a claim, as the buyer is refusing to cooperate (pics, give description of package, give statement, etc) for the shipping company. Shipper, PayPal and Ebay isn't willing to work with the seller.

I hear all of you, I just think there's more to the Liberty issue. The guy in East TN said he was getting messages from all over the world. I bought a Liberty that was a repo through ebay and it relisted 4 times before I got it. Each time the big grew then the buyer said there was something else wrong with the car and tried to get the price down. I really dislike ebay as a seller but until an alternative comes around its pretty much all thats out there.

I never have, nor will I ever buy something via fleabay!
I've been buying and selling classic Mini parts for thirty plus years and have had my share of dreamers who talk out of the side of their neck...
********* that agree to a price and then when it's time to put their money where their mouth is they try to Jew you down figuring that you need to unload the parts/products and that you are willing to take a loss on the stuff...
I learned early on that it's payment up front or it's a no sale!

x2. I'm used to be a big wheeler-dealer in just about anything.

EBay is NOT bad. It's all in how YOU use it. You gotta read the Feedbacks. I've been a member since 1998 and have (330) Feedbacks at 100% rating.

I will absolutely NOT under any circumstances let anyone with less than 10 Positive Feedbacks bid on my stuff.

I will very rarely ever buy anything from anyone that has less than a 99% Positive Feedback rating and at least 100 Feedbacks. I also do not deal with anyone outside the Lower 48 States.

If you mainly stick to Buying stuff off Sellers that have a very high (500+) Feedbacks w/99% rating, your NOT likely to get screwed over.

I, like Tom have been burned BAD in a couple deals here and there. That is just the nature of wheelin-dealin. You move on to the next deal and put the bad deal (loss) behind and learn from it.

You are NOT going to make money or break even on everything. That is just not realistic.
