I was kinda surprised to find the brackets there are actually welded, i.e. one-time use only.

I had to remove one of them and I replaced it with same width cable tie. The cable tie cannot hold it tight enough though. So the boot moves like 2mm when pulled out before getting stuck. Then it moves back if pushed in. I don't really like this 'cause it looks like the seal is not good enough. Any idea what I can replace the brackets with?

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Better and tighter zip-tie.

20 years of using them for that very same application and not once ever had a issue. And yes I turn wrenches for a living so do a lot of those types of repairs.Even new bellow boot kits only come with zip-ties for replacement.

Thanks for chiming in tjkj.

Is there any trick to it? Narrower or thinner zip-tie or something?
