I have this noise that started this past fall. Whenever the temperature drops below 30* there is a creeking sound coming from the rear end. It only happens when the rear axle flexes or you hit a speed bump or something like that.

I've been lazy about looking at up until now. I'm thinking it's probably coming from the rear sway bar. Any ideas what it could be?

I get it too but only when it flexes real good. When I do my oil changes and I am under there on a creeper anyway, one of the things I do is lube everything I can that moves like sway bar bushings etc. I use "Endura" by Castle It is a spray penetrating lube that stays put better than some of the other sprays. One of the reasons it takes me longer to do an oil change than most other people.

Check the glass that pops open in the cargo area. The seal that seals it is a very hard plastic. Cover it in silicone grease and see if it goes away.

Put some grease on that adjustment for the gate too. Its that little black metal piece that lines the door up with the latch when you close it.

The noise can not be the rear awaybar since it has no bushings at all and is only bolted directly to the 2 LCA's.

DO NOT SPRAY the bushings with anything,it will only cause damage, they are designed to operate completely dry.

You have got rust build up and that is making the noise.Your location(using salt) and the lack of proper washing is causing your noise. My KJ has never had any type of sqeak or noise from the suspension, never sprayed my bushings with anything but high pressure water and my KJ is almost 7 years old.

Taking what TJKJ said into consideration, I got under my Jeep and took a look around. The springs are not rusted at all. They all have the factory coating still in tact and look good.

Could this simply be from worn out factory shocks and struts?

Bad rear shocks, worn LCA bushings,or a bad tri-link balljoint is most likey to blame.

Since we had our first big snow fall it's stopped doing it. I'm thinking the rear bushings were dry or something.

The '06 we purchased seems to do it too, only not as much.

Perhaps it's a 'Jeep thing'

My '06 with 19k creaks in the front and rear now that it is cold out here in Minneapolis... Any consensus if this is shocks or sway bar?

Should I get this checked under warranty while I still have it?

to the above 3 posts at 4:11/ 5:18 and 5:33 :eek: more than likely its the front sway bar bushings, nothing really to worry about and it will come and go. with only 19000 miles the springs and shocks you have at least another 10 to 15000 miles left on them;)
