Questions about brakes...

I have a 03 sport, automatic and I've noticed that when pressing the brakes, they seem to pulsate...you can both feel it in the petal and kinda hear it too. It's not because I'm braking ******* slippery roads, it happens all the time. It is less noticeable when going at slower speeds, but when braking hard when going faster it is pretty strong.
Any advice or anything I should look at?

Your rotors are warped.Time for replacement rotors and pads.I highly recommend Napa ultra premium rotors and Napa ceramic pads,you'll be happy with the stopping power.

Ah okay, I was hoping it was simpler than that...when I bought it the guy said the pads were new but I don't remember him saying anything about the rotors.

Remember to replace the rotors with new ones when you do the brakes.

Don't have the rotors turned. It's a temporary solution.

a friend bought a set of new rotors and he said the difference was substantial. They just sell bunch of different quality classes.

We've all had this discussion before, it's sometimes cheaper and a better idea to simply replace the rotors than have them turned down.

Do you have discs up front or on all four wheels?

Not sure...I've only had the jeep about a week. I'll check out the rockauto site, I hear they are pretty good.
I will probably replace them instead of getting them turned down.
Might sound dumb, but if I didn't have disks, what else would I have? Are you referring to the rotor or the brake pad...as in pads or drum brakes?

They have so many on rockauto...what would be some recommended ones?

The 2002 and some 2003 models had: Front Disk / Rear Drum brake setups.

All models after that had 4 wheel disk brakes.

If Rock Auto is too complicated, buy from Napa-Online. Their parts are very high quality

Okay, I looked the other day and I have all 4 disk brakes, no drums. So that's good. Is there any way to narrow down which rotors need to be replaced? Would warped front rotors feel different when braking than rear ones? Just trying to find a way to spend less $$ right now due to the lack of funds.

You'd have to take it into a shop with a micrometer on a magnetic base so that the technican can determine which rotor is out of spec. Chances are though, that the fronts are the rotors that are out of spec.

If it were me, I'd start with the fronts

If you feel the steering wheel shimmy(shack) while braking it's the front rotors.You most likely will not feel the rears until they are very warped then it would still not be felt through the steering wheel but through the brake pedal.

okay, that helps...because right now there is no shake at all in the steering wheel, it is just the pulsing in the pedal. I'll start with the rear ones and then if that doesn't fix it move on to the front.
