He had the fuel pressure tested and its checked out fine so its probably not that. Since he also smells gas thats probably not the issue.

Its got to be something with the air(dirty intake) or something is wrong with the firing. Hes changed the spark plugs so those are good.

If no one thinks of anything here maybe we could post up a link on lost to get some more opinions???

I could/could not be.I'm just going off what I would check first regardless of past work done.I had a '96 Turaus and it would take forever(cranking) to start,it had low(1-2 psi) fuel pressure but after it started(30-45sec of cranking) it had normal fuel pressure(45psi).$130 later for a new fuel pump and all was well.

02 Liberty Ltd. 75k miles. Always used 93octane fuel but recently switched to regular since gas prices skyrocketed and manual says it only requires 89 octane anyway. Starting problems and hesitation on highway when letting off the pedal. Put in fuel injection cleaner and back to using 93 octane but problem still persists. Had tune up around 45k miles. Any suggestions???

Hmm inneresting. My manual said use regular, not premium as the higher octane could produce performance problems...

on here
I had the same problem with cold starts but on a different vehicle. (same type fuel system with electric fuel pump in the tank). It was real hard to start, but after it was running it was fine.

So I started turning the ignition key to the on position for a few seconds before trying to start it. I would hear the fuel pump powering up and pressurizing the fuel system. Then I would start it and it would fire right up immediately. It was a lazy fuel pump that wouldn't hold pressure after it sat overnight, but was ok after it was running. A new fuel pump fixed it.

I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty 3.7L, the problem i have is that when i go start the car, it takes longer than normal to crank over, it will usueally turn over the 3rd or 4th attempt but never the 1st. I have already changed the Spark plugs, battery, crank and camshaft sensor, cleaned the throttle out, and had the fuel pump buellitin(TSB 14-005-01) done. the place that i took it too said that i have good fuel pressure now. has anyone had this problem, or might have any ideas what might be wrong with it? the only thing i noticed when i changed the spark blugs is that the one that went into #1 Cylinder was browner than the other ones and smelled like fuel a little bit. Can anyone HELP!

i posted this a while back on another website but i never got any reply on it. i still have this problem

Same Problem

I'm having the same problem with my wifes liberty. It's starting to piss me off. I keep taking it to the dealship and they keep telling me nothings wrong with it. They changed the plugs the first time. Same problem though. Slow to start. Battery is new also. 93K miles
