Platic piece in front of the airbox.

Just curious at what the purpose of this piece is. I tried searching and couldn't find much on the matter. Other than blocking a good amount of air and a little bit of water, what good is this thing? Has anyone taken it off? Any side effects? Any benefits?

Just remembered seeing it a couple weeks back, found it after 6 or so pages.

Pretty much just a barrier for water/debris. I removed mine. No benefits, no negative affects. About the only real difference is that the intake sound is louder when you first start up. Quiets down once the engine is warm. Reminds me of my previous ride. Had ram air and you could hear the intake sucking air 50 feet away when I started up cold. Love the sound of the intake pulling air. Love the sound of the intake huffing open when you jab the throttle too!
