So this is almost a win. Now that the motor is back in and running smooth new torque converter cleaned up the ****** shudder, I’ve chased a couple drops and cleared some codes now I’m seeing p0173 and p0175 lingering and p0839. The 839 4x4 position light hasn’t worked for years. So I am going to swap the sensor for p0839 the other two I’m scratching my head on. The only thing I changed was obviously the motor repairs for head gaskets and the not working cylinder 6 with a dropped rocker. I swapped the air filter from the box and I did the 2 rear 02’s before pulling the motor haven’t done the front 02’s.

Rich codes - does your scan tool show data? Be interested to see what the fuel trims are when driving.

So I’m using the oreilly code scan tool. It shows live data I just havent driven with it. I did the pass front 02 and now the map sensor and almost made it 60 miles when the codes came back. 172 and 175. Should I just pull the intake and check the gaskets? They are new but I guess could be damaged.

You could but if you had a bad intake gasket you would have lean codes - basically a vacuum leak. Rich codes can be caused by a bad airflow sensor(which our trucks don't have), upstream O2 fault, map sensor reading, coolant sensor reading out of whack, faulty purge valve, restriction in the intake etc. So basically lots of things - that's why monitoring the data when driving will help pinpoint the problem to a specific sensor or system. Try putting the factory air box back in, clear the codes, and drive it for a while to see if any codes come back.

Sadly I put a battery in that air box spot. Did just check trim at idle to see -32.8 across the board. Put 200 miles on her this weekend and she ran well just with code 172 and 175 continuing to pop up. Just swapped the throttle body gasket and officially she has bank 1/2 sensor 1/2 new 02’s. Ran up and cleared codes and while gone it shows pending 175 already. I’ll see if they let me run off with the code reader and try to get more data.

Drove with the scan tool. Both banks sensor 1’s are moving -11 then -3 then + 5 back to 0 then - 7 etc. both banks sensor 2’s are dead at 99.2 while driving. The oveall short term and long terms are living -32.8 to -21 and -3. Pics attached I can’t seam to get video added.

Is this normal with a new set of gaskets?

Pulled the intake redid the gaskets, reran all the pcv lines added clamps to everything and thought I solved this. Nope, still need to try the stock air box but seams odd it can’t function with a cone filter. P0172 175 are killing me.

I’m lost. New gaskets checked hoses, I’m running out of new parts to add for p0172 175. The factory air filter box wasn’t it. On a positive note while with the light on it did drive 300 miles last weekend for the first time since October only now it’s way cooler.

Sorry for ending this short. I finally decided to swap injectors from the eBay rando set to original remans and doing that plus finding the plastic fuel line as it connects to the fuel rail was loose I resolved this issue. Drove for the summer and winter 2023 until last week when we went trail hunting. Made it home but might have taken on more water than the pcm liked as it’s freaking out again. U-0168 lost comm.
