So is there any other off road type muffler that may be more soothing without drone?

They just look like performance mufflers and not like the Off Road Checker Plate FlowMaaster.

I want something that will take a hit without crumpling like a pop can.

Your stock one has what? Just over 40,000 miles on it?
Just leave it alone and replace it once it's burnt out!
He'll, our's has 234,600.0 Km and is still rot free and quiet!
It just has a dent in it is all.
All the mufflers I've heard/listened too on You tube and one in person (a lowered KJ)
sound like Hindu machines! (for all you other non Canuks... Rice burners!)

When the time comes to replacing ours I think I'll just bolt a Thrush Turbo under it. Cheap price, decent quality, and not too obnoxiously noisy.

As far as "off road" I'll add some skid plating to the front and rear of the muffler itself. (from the pipe to the muffler canister)

Ryan, I was hoping that by replacing the muffler I may net better fuel economy.
The stock muffler is quiet it works, but why not try something else?
I know I may loose some low end torque for higher rpm gains, but The jeep's muffler is almost too quiet and restrictive.
I like the flowmaster for it's bullet proof look (checker plate is good) it is not expensive either.

I've got the super 44, just not the diamond plate one, and I absolutely love the sound and my neighbors hate me!

I agree that if you want a muffler that can take a hit it'd be best to install a skid plate. That Magnaflow muffler TJ posted looks good too!

How easy is it to replace your muffler anway? Is it all just bolt on, or is there any welding required for the exhaust?

I'm all for a good sounding exhaust note/sound. But not at the expense of loosing any low end torque!
And off road I don't really hear the exhaust... I'm too busy concentrating on driving!
But I guess driving over stacked up 2X4's in a mall parking lot is a different story. You wanna make sure as many people as possible see and hear you! ;)

I really like the sound of the glaspak, using a 28in over all length. $24.00 at autozone here. You got to hear it hit the rev limiter with the glaspak. I drive about 100miles one way to wheel,at 75-80 mph it is loud, bearable but loud.
