Funny you should mention this. I was replacing pads and rotors on all four corners of my Outback today and marveled at the same thing. It's an 01 and I was sort of shocked that many of the welds appeared unfinished. Haven't noticed it on the KJ, but haven't looked carefully.

How many miles has it gone without them ripping off so far? I'll bet some structural engineer got paid good bucks to decide that was all the attachment area it needed. He's probably right.

Those mounts are HSS and robotically welded so your more then good to go for strength.




You should see the axle tube ends welds on my RJ60,boy are those beautiful(not joking,wish I could weld like that).

Glad to hear that high strength steel was used and robotically welded, and that I am not alone on the unfinished welds.
