Mopar Limited Slip Additive-Trac Lok

I guess it was "time" ...they upgraded the formula/ part number again!
Only the last digit has changed over the years from A-B-C to now D..
Ah right D stands for DOH ...or Differential

I've got two bottles on the KJ shelf in the garage. I'll have to try to remember to check and see what "version" I have.

Thanks for bringing this info to our attention TC.

Seems to me that I have seen commercial diff fluids that said on the bottle that they included "limited slip additive". Not sure now. I just have an open diff so I was not paying much attention. I have some Valvolene diff fluid in the garage and they don't say they have any in it?

Thanks Dave.
An open carrier does not require Limited slip additive, but will not harm an open differential, if limited slip is included or added.
If Limited slip or Posi traction is not mentioned on the gear lube bottle, it does not contain it. I would have a difficult time to find a gear lube with it included, around here-rare.
It is necessary & I prefer to use the 4 oz Mopar limited slip additive with Gear Lube for those with the Trac-Lok.
Standard recommend gear lube is 75w-90 and for those pulling or using a trailer, a heavier weight 75w-140 is recommended, as per owners manual.

Yeah I know. That's why I said I was not paying that much attention to which one had it on the label that it had the "limited slip modifier" in it. Not all do of course. I don't remember now. Usually just check to be sure I am getting the right weight and whether it is dino or syn. I was getting it for the tiller and tractor trannies and KJ diffs so I was getting all different ones.

are there brands of limited slip additive we should avoid?

I have a bottle made by CRC, I'll be using next.

I think the limited slip stuff is all about the same really.
Just don't go crazy with it..Add only 4 ounces to the lube for a trac-lok.

Earlier Jeeps up to 05? with off road packages, skids hooks etc or known on my build sheet as the "customer preferred package" under Axle- Trac-Lok was a whopping $405 extra.
They are a clutch based locker and often known as a Trash-Lok cause the clutches can wear out, which leaves ya with a noisy diff and now open carrier.
My clutches were replaced under warranty by dealer at only 35k miles.
It continues to operate quietly and I think the Lucas dino /heavy duty sticky 85w-140 it likes.
Will soon tear into cover and see what lurks inside. Hopefully clean & no major particles.

I like CRC stuff. The things I've used over the years have been good products. If it's the trans-x stuff, I used that in my 02 Trac-loc twice and worked fine.

Yeah. I saw that one too but didn't want to muck around with measuring half the bottle. :)

Other crc I've got include electronic cleaner spray, I think I also have the TB cleaner and a tube of their EP nlgi 2 grease as specified in the fsm.

I've tried the lubeguard friction modifier as well.
