Hi all
Have a 3.7 auto KJ with rear LSD
The first time I took it off road "green landing in England" a couple of times I was in a situation when one rear wheel was not spinning and the other was spinning free due to no grip.
Heard you can get the LSD to put power to the non spinning wheel by applying the hand brake?

From Owners Manual:
TRAC-LOK™ REAR AXLE — IF EQUIPPED

The optional Trac-Lok™ rear axle provides a constant
driving force to both rear wheels and reduces wheel spin
caused by the loss of traction at one driving wheel. If
traction differs between the two rear wheels, the differential
automatically proportions the usable torque by
providing more torque to the wheel that has traction.
Trac-Lok™ is especially helpful during slippery driving
conditions. With both rear wheels on a slippery surface, a
slight application of the accelerator will supply maximum
traction. When starting with only one rear wheel on
an excessively slippery surface, slight application of the
parking brake may be necessary to gain maximum traction.

My note: Engage into a 4x4 mode if it's really slippery and when RWD no longer offers good traction.

putting the parking break kind of defeats the purpose ... of going forward what a stupid idea.

The idea is to "trick" the LSD into thinking there is SOME grip at the wheel that's slipping. Basically it's only a tactic to get the LSD to spin the wheel that isn't spinning.

how to tackle lose gravel situation?

At the bottom of an incline, all lose gravel at the bottom. All 4 tires were on the lose gravel.

I was on 4Lo. I couldn't get any traction and I had to back track.

With or without LSD?

With it would definitely help since it would balance out the power to keep one tire from just spinning.

Without... backtrack? More speed? Engage thrusters?

well I had LSD but all fours were spinning. I guess I could have tried going faster like you said.

Starting at the point on the trail were there were no lose gravel then launching up towards the incline?

I was going slow cause it was dark already and could see too well.

Surprised 4LO didn't act like a crawler gear for you. I usually use no gas in 4LO and climb up/down all sorts of hills.

well, at that point on the trail, at the base of the incline was just small rocks and gravel. It was a pretty good layer of that material.
Even a light tap on the gas pedal, all fours were spinning and throwing rocks.

I thought of using the handbrake technique but didn't think it would work so I didn't try it.

What kind of tires? What air pressure? air them down a bit?
All I can tell you is that my trusted silent armors with Kevlar just passed the test again.
My friend that was with me was blown away. I said it is not a good idea to stop here and watch this..
Super steep up hill on mega loose gravel, at 17 psi, I stop in the middle of hill in 4 low.
Hand brake on giver er a little gas and away we go..hardly threw any rocks it just started along nicely! Yes Jeeps can go well..
