I have an '04 Liberty Sport, currently with open diff. It's been a while since I've driven a rear-wheel drive. Iused to have a Neon, and also a Focus. And the last truck I had (Dodge Ram 4x4) had a fulltime transfer case, with automatic 4WD. And WAY before that, I had a Ford Ranger 4x4 (which I have to admit, was probably my most favorite vehicle of all.)

I've seen mention on here that the PowerTrax No-Slip is not highly recommended, however I had one installed in my Ranger. I recall the jolt you would get every once in a while, but learned to adjust my driving habits to prevent it (after turning, you have to wait for the rear to lock back up before you really get on the gas.)

I'm really only looking for something to assist with daily-driving, snowy streets, occasional off-roading and whatnot.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

There isn't a GOOD luncj box locker,
there are lunch box lockers that work but not best
save up for an ARB so much better and smoother

Another vote for the DTT.

I replaced the factory trash lock when it broke and damaged the pinion bearing with a DTT. It works much better than the factory LSD.

what do you want LSD or Locker
2 different animals
if you want and "auto locker" any thing but a detroit is a waste of money
if you want a selectable locker ,on/off button, then ARB
if you want an LSD then the Detroit True Track
I have a Detroit and an ARB in my TJ ,the ARB has never failed me
The same for the Detroit
I broke 2 power Trax lockers back to back on easy trails

I have never owned a TT but my brother has 1 in the front of his YJ and neither he nor I are very impressed ,before he had the Detroit if he lifted a wheel he got 1 wheel peel
and no amount of breaks would help
is it better than open ,yes
is it great for a front diff ,yes
would I put 1 in the rear ,NO
would I have just the TT front or rear ,NO

Now to qualify what I am saying
if you put them front and rear with ESP/Traction control then great ,no TC then fair
if you put a locker rear and a TT front great
Just the TT rear then dont look for much ,improvement over open but only a little

Don't expect them to be making the 8.25 ones anymore, sounds like there pulling them off the market since there are to many versions and they are failing.
I had the DTT up front and ARB in the rear before my SFA.That combo kicked a$$.I never spun a front wheel when one was in the air, just had to apply the brakes just a little to fool it into locking like a locker and worked every time. The DTT are not recommended for 33"+ tires.

Thanks all. To me, it doesn't really matter between locker or LSD. Only looking for the rear for now, and like I said, only to improve over the open diff (for instance, I had trouble just pulling up the slight incline to my garage due to the compacted snow on the incline.)

Don't really want an ARB, because I want an "automatic" locking mechanism, not a manual one.

Sounds like DTT or Powertrax for me then. Believe me, this vehicle will NEVER see the trails most of you are putting yours on. Right now I don't have the $$$, so unfortunate as it may be, it just won't be doing it.

Thanks

If you don't wheel it,stay away from a lunchbox lockers.A whole new driving style is needed with a auto locker, you gte used to it though.

Yeah, like I said...I had a Ford Ranger with a Powertrax No-Slip in it. I believe that most of the detractions I have heard here regarding Powertrax is due to the owners not adjusting their driving style to fit with the way the Powertrax works.

For the $$, it looks like Powertrax is the only setup you can install which does not require resetting the ring & pinion, which I don't want to do.

So with that said, does anyone know of any other outifts that you can install without removing/reinstalling the ring and pinion?

Thanks again!

You do not need to "reset" the R&P gears if you install a full carrier replacement locker/LSD about 95% of the time. It's a good idea to recheck the backlash though and that takes 5mins max(if that).

Well, I've never done any diff work before, and have heard they can be a pain to do, and will most definitely screw something up if not done right. That's what I was trying to avoid.. :)
