Hey - on the Jeep keyring, I click the lock button once - the car locks. No surprises there then...

I click it 3 times in quick succession, and the car goes PHWEEP. It's still locked, but what's different?

Thanks!

Ok - weird... The PHWEEP wasn't the horns, just - well, a PHWEEP!

So what difference is there between normal lock and phweep/horn lock?

I've tried looking in the manual, but that thing is useless... Real mission trying to find anything...

Cheers

"phweep" sounds like an alarm arming noise. Do you know what kind of alarm you have?

Sounds like an aftermarket alarm, but it can't be since you mention the Jeep keyring... Have you ever set off your alarm before? Does the horn honk continuously or do you get a "phweeping" type noise?

I think its honking... Can't remember exactly...

Any suggestions on how to set off the alarm? Be inside it and lock it, or leave a window open?

I have an 06, and acording to the book, you can change settings with your key fab. What it can do is all over the place, but general info is on page 25.

You maybe setting the light confirmation on or off, or turning on off the horn chip. the way to program things is to prss and hold the lock button for at least 4 seconds. You might be just luck with pressing three times.

I think the confusing part is the siren. The factory alarm uses the horn, and as far as I know, there is nothing on a factory jeep that can make a phweep noise, so you must have something else installed. Maybe it is amopar alarm, but whatever it was wasn't right from the factory.

To set it off, sit inside the jeep and lock it using the FOB. Then open the door from the inside, the alarm should go off. Alternatively, leave the windows rolled down, lock it, reach inside to open it (effectively the same thing)

My alarm goes off if I forgetfully open it with the key in the lock.

EnBr is from England, maybe he has something built different.

Scotland - we're very sensitive about that! Esp. during the world cup!

Mine's completely bog standard, factory and it does phweep, but then i might be fooling around with the key fob's settings... I was wondering if it puts it on a different state of alert?

I cant find anything about why you'd have this behaviour, (note the extra u in there for your benefit) but maybe this will help.

As I undertand it, the factory alarm in the UK models is different from the ones stateside, in that it includes a siren.

Maybe thats it.

Siren - An alarm siren is located on the front
extension of the right front wheel house panel in the
engine compartment of vehicles built for sale in certain
markets where it is required equipment. (Refer
to 8 - ELECTRICAL/VEHICLE THEFT SECURITY/
SIREN - DESCRIPTION).

ALARM - The VTA alarm output varies by the
version of the VTA with which the vehicle is
equipped. In all cases, the alarm provides both visual
and audible outputs; however, the time intervals of
these outputs vary by the requirements of the market
for which the vehicle is manufactured. In all
cases, the visual output will be a flashing on and off
of the exterior lamps. For vehicles equipped with the
North American or the ROW base version of the
VTA, the audible output will be a pulsing of the horn.
For vehicles with the ROW premium version of the
VTA, the audible output will be a cycling of the
alarm siren. See the owner’s manual in the vehicle
glove box for details of the alarm output requirements
of the specific market for which the vehicle
was manufactured. The inputs that will trigger the
alarm include the door ajar switches, the tailgate
ajar switch, the flip-up glass ajar switch, and in vehicles
built for certain markets where they are
required, the hood ajar switch and the Intrusion
Transceiver Module (ITM)

Wow - thanks for the extra U - makes me feel more at home here (sad!)!

That text above was a mission to read, and here's my answer to what i think it said:

The siren does go off for the alarm (my bad), and the last bit i suppose means that it goes off whenever you open a door or the tailgate glass?!?

The last car my family had was a BMW (a fine machine), and there were different alarm settings: eg. the alarm goes off when the car is tilted when someone nicks a tyre, and you can switch that off....

Thanks!

I have accidentally tested the alarm and it's a WEE-OOO WEE-OOO type. So I was wrong about the horn...

Helps?

Hmm...interesting. Could this be a "Cherokee" thing? I'm going to ask this the next time I stop by a local dealership here...if I ever need to, that is.

COuld be, weird...

I've checked out the manual, and it mentions reconfiguring the lock system so that the car goes phweep when locking. I've tried it (hold lock button for between 4 and 10 secs, then press unlock, and release both), but nothing happens...
