? More friction for brakes? 'splain a little more please. IMHO, 4x4 stops worse in the snow just for the fact it's heavier than a 2wd vehicle. I don't how seeing a "powered" front axle helps when you're hitting the brakes.

Heavier on shallow snow(under 12") and ice is better then being lighter.In deep snow weight does not matter if the correct tires and psi are used.In 4wd the brakes are less likely to lock up then in 2wd as the front wheels are being powered and now the brakes must overcome that torque and it's normal stopping duties.Turning front wheels while braking means faster slowing on ice then locked up brakes on ice and you got the added compression braking from 4 wheels instead of 2 wheels.
