Jeep KJ Liberty -Gates Tensioner and Belt !

Just to clarify there has been some confusion over pulley diameters offered on the replacement tensioner assemblies.
My original OEM tensioner is aprox 3 inch's wide on both pulleys and so is the new Gates 76mm for both pulley's.
Other tensioners may have 90mm and a 76 mm so I didnt want to have to get a longer belt or mess around with that.
That way my current belt that's about to be removed, can easily get used as a spare, should the need arise.
The new tesnsioner comes with a new bolt, will use a drop of locktite too.

The new Gates micro V belt is EPDM quality, same as original OEM or probably better now that it is new! :gr_grin:

My 04 had the smaller pulley. Bought a dayco unit and it had the bigger pulley. Been working fine with the stock sized belt.

Gates under part search only lists K060863 Micro-V AT Premium 86 7/8 as normal belt for 3.7

Does anyone know why rock auto lists 2 other Gates belts for the 04 KJ?
Not Nice since they have no comparison -length specs etc REALLY ???
Here are the 2 other Gates belts listed by Rock Auto 6PK2203 Micro-V® XF
and 6PK2223
I don't know beside V- XF quality what they are, and I am out of patience on the rock auto site....
will have to go to Gates to try to figure it out...

I think the AC delco 39120 is the same as the gates one ....Wish I could see one.

I just measured the old tensioner and it's 76mm + 90mm.
The Gates replacement I have was also made in Canada.

I used a gates when I replaced mine.

Just slapped a Gatorback belt on, Tensioner was fine and moved freely so did not need replaced.

Today Was install day for the Gates Tensioner Assembly with Gates EPDM Belt.
Took out the long handle ratchet and a 15mm socket to push down on tensioner spring to remove the belt..

A 13mm is needed with a short extension to remove the center bolt on the tensioner assembly.
A Rag with WD-40 is used to clean up the surface.

Here are the new and OEM factory bolts side by side....
You can see the old bolt is not threaded all the way & includes a shank, I used new bolt.

A few drops of blue locktite is used on the 13 mm bolt and torqued to 35 ft lbs.

The old belt was worn quite a bit and the spring on OEM tensioner was weakened.
The belt routing is definitely different & Thank goodnes for the routing sticker by the rad. I needed it!

Cheap tin on outside of pulley,was this from salt getting in there or mud? Don't know.

I live in AZ so no rust with mine.

Mine was really corroded (MI salt) but I don't remember any rust.

The ribbed pulley?
I'm getting a very slight wobble with mine.

There's a very small play with mine pushing it forward and back.
